The airbag light, on my 1997 Pontiac Sunfire comes on intermittantly preventing me from getting my inspection sticker. Is there something I can do to repair the problem without taking it to a mechanic?

Unfortunately, there isn't! AIrbag systems are nothing for the home mechanic to play with. They can be dangerous to work on and it's unsafe to just let a problem with them go.

Well, it could mean that the emergency brake has not been fully released.The ABS system light is on if something has occurred within the ABS system. Something faulty may have happened there, get it checked out!
Driver side is easy just be sure to disconnect the battery and Red airbag wires under the dash. The Two bolts holding the driver airbag on are on the back of the steering wheel. easy stuff.
