I successfully did this on my 2001 Honda Civic.

You have to remove the entire center console to get to the light. I recommend actually having the replacement bulb prior to starting. I used a Sylvania 74 that I picked up at the local auto parts store. They are tiny bulbs. About $3.

Here is a diagram I found that was very helpful in removing the center console:

The light near my automatic gear shift won't light - 07f6bbd.png

In A above, you have to work out the middle portion of the console by pulling up on it. There are tabs that hold it in place on either side of it but you can't get to them. By using my fingers and grabbing the inside of the main dish, I applied upward pressure and it came out. It did not break in the process, but I can't guarantee the result will be the same for you.

In picture B you will see that there are two screws hidden underneath the part you just removed. You need to remove those two screws plus the two tabs shown in front and the two screws located in the rear close to the floor.

You will need to put the shift into neutral or farther back to then lift out the entire console.

Once the console is removed you will see a wire going into the right side just underneath the gear shift. If you look into where it's going, you will see the back side of a small round socket. Rotate the socket about 90 degrees and it should come out. Voila! The bulb.

Simply pull the bulb out and push in a new one. Turn on the headlights to test. The bulb should be nicely lit.

Now push the socket back into where it came from and rotate back 90 degrees to lock it in place. If you reverse the rest of the instructions, putting the console back together will just take a minute or two.

Finally, write an email to Honda and tell them what you think about how easy it is to replace this lamp.

This is for a Honda Civic Hybrid 2003

1. Start off by removing the Coin tray. Insert hand into the small compartment and gently pull it up. Doing it wrong might break the tabs.

Bad bulbs....really small - if you can get to them - check fuses first of course, but the bulbs are probably bad- and they are $3 or $4 each...You probably have 3 or 4 bad - remove and replace with known good bulb...Good luck...

Why is the sport mode light flashing on my 2000 Cadillac Catera?

Sport Mode Indicator Lamp and Automatic Transmission Warning Lamp (STL)
The sport mode indicator lamp illuminates when the vehicle has been put into the sport mode by pressing the "S" button on the gear selector. When this lamp is illuminated the vehicle will have slightly firmer shifts and increased performance for part and full throttle situations.
This lamp will also flash when there may be a problem with the automatic transmission. The transmission control module (TCM) performs a continual self diagnosis of certain control functions. The lamp will flash only when an error is detected. The TCM will store in memory a current and/or history trouble code when a problem is detected. I'd have it checked out !

My 2004 malibu has an automatic transmission. It won't shift into 2nd gear and sometimes the cruise control will not work. What can be the problem?

These sorts of problems are normally electric and i would hazard a guess but only a guess thats its a speed sensor of some description but what and where i have no idea offhand without a play with my automotive meter but you could try a code reader first to see if any fault codes are showing .

My cruise control is not working, no lights come on and I've checked all fuses with a meter and all check good, I can't put it in gear without pushing brake so shift interlock is good, all connections...

If the CHML ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) is working correctly, the next thing to check is the Cruise Control Deactivation switch on the brake pedal.
6d7cc37.jpg

This is different than the Brake Pedal Position ( BPP ) Switch which is for the stop lamps, and the shift interlock.

The Cruise Control deactivation switch, and the on / set switch are the only external inputs to the Cruise Control, the PCM uses the VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor ) to read, set and adjust the speed ( no more vacuum items on the 04+ MY trucks )

Failsafe engine mode light on. reasons why. xj308 v8 1998

My 1999 Jag XJ8 did the same thing when the cruise control was activated (red button by the gear shift), but I wasn't actually using the cruise control. I deactivated the cruise control and the fail safe message no longer appears.

Theres a button on the automatic stick what is it

That may be your overdrive button, try cruising at a steady safe speed and depress the button, you will feel a shifting motion on transmission and OD light may come ON on dashboard, this shifts your tranny to a lower gear when more power is needed without pressing gas pedal so hard that passing gear kicks in.
