98 toyota corolla le died out while going

98 toyota corolla le died out while going down the road. will not start, was told at first engine locked up the engine is not locked up, the starter will not engage when the key is turned

  • sandicdn Aug 30, 2009

when the key is turned to the on position the dash lights come on but when you turn it to start the starter doesn't engage. Also, the fuses have been checked and they have traced back as many electricial wires as possible. there are quite a bunch of them...
any other thoughts... thanks for your input oscaramanse .. we do know that the timing change has to be changed but it didn't come off

Check the connection at the battery terminals and other electrical connections.

the starter or the solenoid may be defective. please check by connecting two wires from the batter (+, -) to the solenoid's + and - posts. the positive is at the center and the - may be grounded to the chassis. if it clicks the solenoid is okay also check the ignition switch at the steering wheel. there may be loose connection or contact when you turn the key. or the flywheel teeth are damaged. by the way, does the engine crank?.

98 Toyota Corolla LE- Clock only works if the hi-beams are turned on and turn signals click rapidly when I use them. I must constantly re-adjust them. Dealer that sold me the car won't help me.

You will need to go to a specialist auto electrician. Whats wrong probably isnt that much, but it will take some skill to find. Sounds like an earthing issue or some bad wiring from another installation like add on alarm/central locking/audio.

1989 toyota corolla quits when going down road but still turns over

As with any no start issue, you will need to find out if you are dealing with a no spark or no fuel problem to proceed.
Once you find that out you can either let us know or research it online.

My temperature guage on my 1991 toyota corolla LE keeps flickering between normal and cold. hat could be the problem

Hi there,

It could be the result of an intermittent connection on the temperature sensor.

If the connector is not fully seated, the vibrations from the engine and road could interfere with its normal functionality.

Reseat it and go from there. It may be distracting, but its much better than it jumping from normal to hot.

Best regards'

Open the back trunk, look near the top of the trunk, and pull the two black levers. They have a seat folding down symbol. That will release the locks to fold the back seat down.
