There is more than one on this car a sensor one and sensor two the first one is either mounted in the exhaust manifold off the engine or just below it the second one is further back by the catalytic convertor in the exhaust pipe.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located on a 96 legacy

The sensor is usually located on the thermostat housing cap. Follow the top radiator hose to the engine. You will see a couple of wires coming from the sensor. That's your temp. sending unit.

the o2 sensors are locted in the exhaust system. upstream is before cat converter, downstream is after cat converter.
