1991 buick park ave. does it have a timing belt or chain. if belt when does it need replacing?

if valve timing off due to worn timing chain engine wont start.if you suspect timing chain need replacing if you hear slapping noises best replace timing chain quick as possible if you keep driving timing chain will break cause engine damage.

They are not prone to fail. I always recommend to replace only major when engine repair is needed.

A park Ave. is a Buick and a 5th Ave. is a Chysler the Buick can have 3 different engines so I need to know which engine. The cysler 5th Ave. is a 318 400 or 440 the buick is a 455 350 olds or a 350 chev or a 350 buick. 3.8 buick. The 8th number in the VIN will tell your parts store guy and he shoul be able to prvide the belts and the picture of how they go on. Sometimes the picture is on the fan shrould and sometimes it's on the package the belt comes in ( some gates belts that only fit your car.

Did you try the drivers door lock cylinder?

Firt - study & write down (draw) the belt path,,
and be sure about it..

Then - put a wrench on the nut in the center of the tension pully.. Move the tension pully to loosen the belt.. Pull belt off..

Repeat to put new one on..

Should be pretty easy..

I will need to have a little more information...does it turn over...and if it does...does it seem to be turning over faster than normal since that could indicate a timing chain problem.

I have the same car, and not could not find non-air struts for the rear end....ended up replacing the air struts and the air pump....Good Luck.
