You hook the wiring for the trailer into the wiring harness in the rear for the tailights

this is best left to someone that knows what they are looking for in the wiring...consult your owners manual or take it to a good mechanic

You can get an adapter kit that connects the wiring together. It's like clamps that have metal that cut into the wires and connect all of them. Use an ohmmeter to find out which wire is for what.

I have a 98 Chevy blazer I am try to fix my trailer lights with a universal harness the problem I am having is the blazer has 6 wires and the harness has 4 what do I do

The universal harness with four wires assumes that the brake lights and turn signals use the same bulbs. If your Blazer has separate bulbs for rear turn signals and brake lights, this 'universal' harness will not work unless you buy a separate adapter to merge the power to the brake lamps and turn signals for the trailer.

My truck has a 4 wire plug plugging into a 4 plug with 5 wires to trailer. how do you wire trailer wires to adapt to plug that plugs into the plug with 4 wires

If the trailer has electric brakes that are powered by a separate battery, you use a 4-pole to 5-pole adapter and connect the extra wire to the truck backup light circuit.

Only the left rear trailer light comes on when I apply the brakes.

I had the same problem with my 2002 Silverado last summer when I first bought my boat and was getting the trailer ready to go. Like an idiot, I rewired the boat trailer on that side before I decided to look at the owner's manual. The pickup has separate fuses for right and left side of trailer. They're located in the big box in the engine compartment. I replaced the 10 or 15 size fuse and haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps!
