1998 cadillac deville

Battery light came on and said battery is not charging. Is this the alternator. I tried to get jumped and it died.

Your batteryis completely dead first the battery needs to be charged fully. Recheck if there is a belt on the alternator and if so replace alternator.

It depends on how old the alternator is because this happend to a car that came into the shop that i work at if the alternator is brand new than u need a new battery but if the battery and the laternator are brand new than u might need spark plugs or new wireing

The problem may be a bad alternator. When the battery is completely dead jump starting the car will charge the battery enough to run the car for short periods. Take the alternator to the auto parts store and have it tested (usually for free).

My 1989 cadillac deville was running yesterday got in it this mourning it starts right up after 10min of running it dies i jumped it off it started back up then died again now when jumping justclicks
Sounds like you have a faulty alternator, sir. Your car seems to be running off battery power. Once the battery power is exhausted, the engine dies. It will start and run again if you charge the battery, but only for a few minutes until the battery dies again.

Theft security problem
Usually it means the computer is not accepting the chip in your key.
It can be the key, the sensor in the lock cylinder, or something in the security module or computer.
You might try another key or lock and unlock the driver's door with the key.

I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville. I replaced the battery, and alternator. Its still not charging properly. The service charging system light is on on the dash. Can you tell me what else could be wrong?
Sounds like a faulty voltage regulator to me.Start the car and take a multimeter and check voltage coming out of the alternator it should be 14-14.6 volts if its not within these specs take alternator back and get a new one.

Sounds like low power. Could be loose or bad connections or a dying battery. If you can jump start it then probably the battery is bad. If you battery is good then the solenoid on the starter is bad.

The problem could be either one. To find out jump start the engine, with engine still running disconnect the positive battery cable. If the engine dies the alternator is bad. If the engine continues to run the alternator is working.
