2003 ford Focus - engine stops suddenly when braking, no sputter just goes off

  • churchguy55 Aug 30, 2009

My Ford Focus ZX3 stalls when breaking but only from high speeds. That is I don't need to be driving, I can just rev the engine and take my foot off the gas and the car will stall. I can drive it around on neighborhood streets, the problems start when I get on the faster roads and have to stop suddenly.
    Any Ideas?

Power brake booster can have a big vacume leak. does it stall in park just idling and then put on the brake. Vacume leak is to be looked for. If you have to be driving and then brake and it stalls it may be staying in lock up. To test this put hte car in low gear and see if it stalls in low as there is no lockup in low. If it drives OK Cheack to see if I'll drive OK in second If it drives in first and second and the cheak engine light is not coming on your on the way to the transmission shop to get it cheacked most shops will give a free roadtest and an opioned estimate about the casts. If it's got over 135 thou then don't expect a cheap solution as these shops no a correction that doesn't include a full rebuild tends to make peaple mad when it fails again soon after

Ford focus 2008 engine stop when sudden brake why

when you brake ,maybe the engine moves due to broken motor mounts, that can cause problems with or on your hoses , like .
inlet hose, vacum hose, crank case hose, and pcv hose. most like it the last one.

Sputtering engine and break problems, 2000 Ford Focus

The brake pedal issue is a lack of vacuum in the engine while not idling properly. There are quite a few reasons for this issue. I would have the engine codes read first to see if you have a fault code for any of the sensors. It could be any of the following, Map Sensor, TPS Sensor, O2 sensor, Temp Sensor, Fuel pressure regulator, Air intake Temp, fuel pump, broken wire, bad connection or a few other things.
Have the codes checked first to help rule out some of the more expensive items.
