2008 NEW BEETLE MUSTY SMELL FROM AC, WHERE DOES THE AC DRAIN GO THROUGH THE FIRE WALL

The A/C evaporator drain hole is pluged more then likely . Some where out under the vehicle on the passenger side is a drain tube . Or under the hood coming out of the fire wall . Google A/C evaporator drain for your vehicle , find a picture .

Have your AC cooling coil (evaporator) washed and cleaned.

The cabin air filter is placed inside the car under right dash panel near windscreen. See pictures below:

That sounds like the AC condensation drain tube/hose is plugged up.

The AC evaporator/core condensation drain tube is located on the passenger side of the fire-wall towards the bottom of the fire-wall, (it resembles a heater hose that is coming off from the fire-wall and it connects to nothing, and it is just to drain the AC condensation) and it is easily viewed from under the vehicle. Use long pipe cleaners folded in half to clean out the AC drain, and be very careful that the AC evaporator/core, or the heater core is not damaged from using any hard or sharp objects to clean out the AC drain.

on the bottom of the car,small hole need to be cleaned out,
any shop can kift it clean it out for cheap

the musty smell is from the dampness in your heater I would get it checked at a good Rad shop

It sounds to me if you are having a "musty smell" then you might have a problem with your condensation drain line for you a/c system or a small leak on your heater core. If it is plugged then water will collect in the vent system causing a musty smell from the water not draining and if there is a small leak on the heater core then coolant can collect in the vent system. I would run the a/c on a warm day and look for water draining from the vehicle around where the dash is located to check the drain line. As far as your air cabin filter most are located behind the glove box. You usually need to remove the glove box to get to the filter.

run water over the winshield ..keep eye on the fire wall and sides. also check the florr if is wet. water is likin somewere
