You probably have the same problem i just repaired on my surburban. It had 190000 and I lost reverse also. so you may have a reverse sun shell problem. This was common on the 4l60e transmission and when the part wears out you have to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced with a Re-manufactured transmission. Without more information then this is what I can offer.

find a better mechanic......any trans shop should be able to fix it. I hope you have not paid for the non-fix.

no reverse is a symptom of a failed transmission reverse clutch band, to replace this band requires the trans be overhauled.

In an automatic trans its controlled by the reverse band which is pressed by a servo which gets pressure from the valve body. This transmission is known for leaks in the valve body because of seperator plate gaskets becoming brittle.

think this is serious like a piston or something ,seek advice of a local mechanic ,because my experiance of autos is limited ,because not many autos in spain and secondly when i have tried to repair i find the spare parts are non exsistant from the dealers ,only an exchange unit complete
