It all started with a tune up...... then the service engine light came on and the EGR sensor was replaced...... then the service engine light came on.. a cyl coil started misfiring.... then the service engine light came on again the second coil was misfiring and was replaced.... then the alternator went ...... then the service engine light came on and the THIRD coil started misfiring and was replaced..... then the service engine light came on and the FOURTH coil was misfiring and was replaced.... THIS WAS ALL WITHIN A YEAR! NOW the service engine light is on giving a EGR code my mechanic cannot find the problem?????? Could it be the catalitic coverter????
It may be, but the code will specify what the problem is as a lot of things can trigger an EGR code. There are numerous codes that relate to the EGR, but the individual code will usually pinpoint what the issue is.
Some causes could be the DPFE sensor is faulty; there is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup; the EGR valve is faulty; the EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
Egr code has several things you must test first you need to remove the egr valve itself and test it see if its closed or carbon has caused it to be stuck open/or stuck closed ? then you need to look at the ports in the intake below were the valve sits alot of times these holes become clogged due to age and milage and will cause a "low flow detected egr code" simple cleaning it out with a paice of thin mech wire will unstop the port, 3rd is the sensor some of these have been known too melt sitting on the hot valve and cause intermittant shorts/opens requiring replacement good luck autodoc
