On the intake manifold you will see 8 numbers, this is your firing order
from the front of the car the left side numbers are 1,3,5,7 and the right side are 2,4,6,8. now ont the distributor cap there should be a number 1 at one of the plug towers. you start there with #1 plug wireand continue.
on a chevy the firing order is 18436572 and this is the order you put the wires on the cap. now the second problem i don't know right off hand which way the rotor turns on your engine. so remove the cap and crank the engine over and see which way the rotor turns, this is the order you put the wires back on the cap. hope this helps

NO POWER TO THE DISTRIBUTOR ON 87 CADI DEVILLE THERE IS POWER TO CAP

I owned a similar 1986 caddy

12 Volts on pink wire to dist with key on

The top of the cap is the HEI Ignition Coil

Inside dist is the pickup coil (no crank sensor)
& ignition module with the 3 or 4 wires

Maybe the module failed- if you have no spark
at plug wires

I need help asap on replacing wires on distributor cap, i understand the firing order but i cant figure out where 1 is on cap. is it next to the stick out part.

Im sure youve figured this out, but just in case!

Find the connector that plugs into the distributor.

Follow the rectangular shaped top part on the distributor
to the opposite side away from the connector.

Number 1 wire is at the right corner of the rectangular
top part when youre standing at the front left corner
of the car by the battery and looking along that rectangle on top.
Its right against the thumbscrew that tightens down the air
filter housing.

number 8 is the next one to the left of number 1.

can post a pic if you need.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on a 1994 Cadillac Sedan Deville 4.9L V8? I need a diagram or illustration or something. Thanks.

Your 4.9 has a distributor, correct? If so, it does not have a crank sensor, per se, it has a hall effect sensor in the base of the distributor, also called a coil pickup, just below the rotor. It has a harness that goes through the distributer housing.cap and plugs into a harness, and is pretty easy to replace.

1992 Cadillac Deville Sedan

i have two codes on my 92 cadillac sadan deville that read e 12 and e 96. i understand what they both mean. e12 is 'no distributor signal', and the other e 96 is 'torque convertor is overstrewsed'. i know that the toruque convertor is a big project itself, so im goin to send that into the professionals. but i might be able to fix the distributor, if it is the cap, or a false ground wire which hopefully it is. there is about 170,000 mi, and have gone threw alot of parts that i installed myself, but im not goin to let her go yet she still got alot of miles to go. i just need help on checking out the distributor cap for replacement.
