just changing the compressor, some auto parts stores have videos on this. you will need a vacuum pump and some parts. there is not partial fix on AC. the refrigerant gas is corrosive when it is in contact with water. so, the old lines must be cleaned the dryer must be replaced, the "O" rings must be replaced. the orifice must be replaced. after all the parts are replaced a vacuum pump is put on the system for at least 4 hours. after that, the pump is turned off and the valves are closed and the gage is watched until you are sure there is no leak, then the charge in placed in the system. I forgot, you must also ad the correct "pag oil" if you still what to know how to do this let me know and I will try to find you a link, or you can try Auto Zone
You should have a place to connect them on the side of the new shocks - assuming you bought air-shocks. Depending on the connection type, you may have to cut the old end off and use the new ends (should be supplied with the shocks.)
IF YOU HAVE THE 4.0 ENGINE ROD BROKE PART OF WATER PUMP.YOU HAVE TO REPLACE WATER PUMP.YOU NEED TOOL J - 38816 TO REPLACE INSTALL AND REMOVE WATER PUMP.YOU CAN BUY TOOL AT ANY AUTO PARTS STORE.TORQUE FORWATER PUMP IS 73 FT LBS. TORQUE FOR WATER PUMP DRIVE BELT COVER IS 89 INCH POUNDS.
I really like this car, almost bought one new. Now as you know OLD S has been gone since yours was made. No Parts at GM. Never were good in that area. I had a Caddy and did what you want to do when parts were avail. I stayed with the Air Strut/Shock from GM and adjusted ride height sensor ,then off to alignment. Compressor may be under battery, you'll hear it when you turn key on if it works. Kind of old to spend money on. I buy new and keep 17 years and do my own work for 46 years plus owned a shop a couple years. 15 years old is time to ride it out to the end.not restore it. Get a 68 Reviera for that. Forget the air if it becomes had to find parts or send yours out and have them rebuilt if they aren't rusted through.
The alternator is along the engine, just follow the serpentine belt and you'll see it and yes the alternator can be rebuilt, but it's going to be more economical for you to go to Auto Zone and trade your old one for a rebuilt and Auto Zone can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the alternator. Auto Zone can also test your oil alternator to let you know if it is bad or not. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.
