we cant guess drive lines here. all are optional day one made in Japan.

there are 2 systems.

1. part time
2. or TOD

we cant guess what you had day one , (factory options)
tod means "torque on demand" the cluster has these funny looking tires on left of cluster if TOD.

if part time, its only for ice on road, or dirt.
are you on ice or not? or on dirt. (offroad)

this is all explained in the operators guide. sure lost .
for now do not use 4wd on dry , ice free pavement until you answer the 2 questions above.

when you do , do that , it winds up the driveline, (stress)
and the gears do lockup, due to bad drivers choices.
the cure is get on to dirt,gravel,sand, and get out of 4wd.
or jack up one tire, and shift out.

part time is for dirt or ice roads only.
so are you using 4L on pavement, yes, then dont if car is part time.
post your vin or tell what 4wd system you have.
do you have TOD option?, Torque on demand.
so do post what wheels (tires) are touching, in 4L.
if in 4L. now.
we cant guess road surfaces...
if attempting PT on dry roads, stop doing so.
or you will windup the driveline and damage it.

Spark plug gap is .044" of an inch. Hope this is what you were talking about.

There is nothing wrong with the system. When the TOD is in auto it will only engage the front wheels when the rear wheels lose traction. Newer small SUVs have just the opposite, they are in front wheel drive until they lose traction and then engages the rear. Isuzu was ahead of its time with the TOD system.

That is perfectly normal for when the TOD is not engaged. When it is engaged the fronts will light up according to how much torque is being sent to them. As long as the "CHECK" light on your TOD display is off, you are fine.

You might have an engine misfire? I would check and replace all your spark plugs as mind was doing this exact same thing several months ago!

get a code reader and see what codes it pulls

TOD light blinking means the TOD is sending a fault code. have the dealer check it out.

You can switch from 2WD to TOD-HI, at any speed below 50 MPH.

If you want to switch to TOD-LOW, you have to stop the car, put the transmission in Neutral, then turn the dial to TOD-LOW. When you switch out of LOW, do the same.
