from:milton wright.your 1988 5.0 mustang with automatic trans.the dip stick should be under the hood,on the passenger side next to the fire wall.look down! check with the engine running, transmission in park!
There are shift solenoids in the transmission and apparently there's a problem them. I would get it to a trany shop and have it checked right away. If you continue to drive it you will ruin the transmission. Are sure you put the right computer in the vehicle? If you put a computer from a Bronco II with a manual trans in a vehicle with an automatic trans, the trans won't work right.
It would be easier to pull the engine and trans together. Seriously. Thats a big trans for what space you have. Pullingjust the trans is going to be extremely messy and 90% of handling will be manual labor since the engine will have to be tilted sharply. Then there's the torque converter to deal with. It can be done, but just the separating of the engine and trans will be a job, The firewall clearance should be eyeballed very close because the trans has move back. It will be a job if you've never done one before, Good Luck_Ned_ CCall out if you run into trouble. Use my e-mail @[email protected]. I'll be glad to walk you through it. Where are you located?, I'm in CAlif.
HI, this is a defective control solenoid. have it replaced asap. it is located inside the trans pan. this will require you to drain the trans fluid as well. the control solenoid runs directly into the valve body.
