Hello, i have a 1991 range rover great dived, it normally runs great. tonight i reach under the passenger seat to see if i can install a new seat controller. I grab a few wires, got discouraged and aborted. Then I drove to a friends house and notice that everytime I accelerated it would lack a smooth burst of power like I was running out of gas. And then the battery indicator came on. Any ideas?

There are 4 electric motors under each seat and a 5th inside the back rest. Also under each seat is a module containing the relay and memory module It is possible to run new wires but the job will be much simpler if you have (or can get) a pair of original wiring harnesses to go between the module and the harness behind the centre console (remove ashtray, lighter and storage bin) Spade terminals can be used if the module is missing. Make sure the wiring colours all match.
Of course, this is a simplified explanation. Go to Rovers.net for more detail
The tail lights sound like a fuse. The interior fuse box iss under the passenger seat. Access thru the pop out cover on the seat base surround.
If you have a dead battery your gear selector will not disengage from park.
Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to repost with more info and ill do my best to follow up.
I don't know if this will help but, my 1999 is on the outside of the passenger seat. Open the passenger door and look down. I hope its the same and Good Luck!!
im sure you checked this but they have a habbit of snapping front prop, i would guess this has happend and been removed. the transfer box is a borg and worner, on a p36 i have never had or heard of trouble, ive been inside p38 transfers and there is nothing to prevent 50 50 split power. the axle its the same. check the prop is still there, if so get back to me.
You could try swapping out the seat switch from the other side if you are just trying to move the **** portion forward or backward. What usually goes wrong is the seat switch gets corroded and needs to be disassembled and rebuilt. The opposite seat switch will no fit the other side and mount but you can finesse it around to a position where you can make connectioin.
To remove seat switches - Use a small screw driver to carefully pry up the button control knobs (**** and back knobs) on top of the switch housing. Next, remove the cover plate and there you will have 2 screws exposed to remove the switch.
