Question about 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan with 3.8 engine. Engine warning lamp stays on. Last time this happened, my local Dodge/Chrysler "Stealer" charged $130 to "read codes" and tell me that my gas cap was slightly loose. I've found from another website how to get the trouble codes. They're 22, 36, 66, 31, 55(ending code). How do I interpret these codes to find out what needs fixing and perhaps can make repairs myself? Thanks, Mike, PA

97 chrysler town & country dies while driving will only start when in park, runs fine but dies without warning and will restart in park???

Well first it should only restart in park or nuetral, any check engine light on? May be fuel pump if not. Listen for pump running in fuel tank. Should run at key on for a few seconds. If check engine light on, it should be scanned for codes, possible crank sensor

Code P0456 on 2003 Town & Country

Below are the possible causes for your engine light and error code:

Possible Causes:
  • EVAP fuel tank or canister vapor hoses leaking or damaged
  • EVAP system component leaking, fuel cap loose or missing
  • Leak detection pump damaged or leaking

The fuel cap is probably the most common cause of this problem. It's considered part of the emission system and if faulty or not place on the filler tube correctly, it will throw an error. Best of luck with your engine light issue. Take care!

Sounds like you need a starter, or you have a loose wire somewhere under the hood.

Start and shut off after about 2 to 3 minutes. then wouldnt start until engine cool down. 1997 town & country

Check your coolant temp sensor. It is thinking that the engine is cold when it is actually warm or warming up and is probably not giving the correct air to fuel ratio.

Test code TC-153A on a 1997 Chrysler Town and Country LXi

Dont be worried at all. The battery temp sensor isnt very important, most cars dont even have them. The only thing is you will have that light on. Good luck!!
