Describe your key left in ignition battery dead on 2005 trailblazer Problem My daughter, who is a new driver, left our 2005 Trailblazer in gear with the key in the ignition overnight. I discovered the problem when I tried to run an errand. The battery is dead and I have been told that the ''computer'' will now need to be reprogrammed. Is this true? Can I just get the battery jumped?

I have been told that putting graphite on a key can help in some situations. I personally have never tried it. My daughter did it with her Toyota and it worked.
First thing to check is the condition of your battery. Don't know what these problems have to do with selecting 4WD. But if battery is weak or dead, you will have all these conditions.
If you can't get the key out of the ignition, it's probably the ignition switch (where the key goes in) that is bad, not the starter. The starter is on the right side under the exhaust manifold behind the right front wheel. It's not easy to change on those unless you know what you're doing.
I'm going to start by saying I'm not an expert, but it sounds as though a wire or a couple wires going to the door could be cut or tweaked, and for the ding, could be a short.
first make sure battery isn't dead because if he cut it off in gear then the switch couldn't cut the power off and it'll run the battery down and there is a electrical solenoid that allows the shifter to move if theres no voltage than the shifter want go into park and the ignition switch want turn off.
