Flashing icon of lock when car is off. I just bought a used 2006 ford escape and when I turned the engine off and removed key I get a flashing red light that looks like a lock. it is located in the lower left of the instrument panel. Didn't get an owners manual with the car

You must get a new cylinder from a locksmith and he can cut and program the new keys into the system

Try locking and unlocking the doors with the key fob to see if it corrects the problem. You can also try using the key and locking and unlocking the drivers door only

Usually you will need to disconnect battery, wait 5 minutes, reconnect battery, turn vehicle to on position but do not try starting. Wait 15 minutes with key on. Turn off vehicle, wait one minute. Lock door, unlock door. Try starting.

Sounds like a problem with the central timer (lock) controller.

This is not an easy item to work on and diagnose, and can be almost impossible without a scan tool and a factory troublshooting flow chart

does the key have a clip in it ,and do you have the keyless entry . you may need a new key from the dealship

on my 2010 ford escape XLT i found the keyless entry code printed on a label on the smart junction box which is inside the center console. To get to the smart junction box follow these instructions.
1. with a non-marring tool(i used a putty knike wrapped in plastic wrap), pry up the chrome trim piece around the shifter.
2. Remove the storage tray from underneath the center console armrest and leave the armrest cover open.
3. Grab the center console finish panel near the cupholders and pull straight up.
4. Pull the finish panel up and back then set it aside.
5. The smart junction box is to the right and slightly ahead of the gear shifter. There should be a label with a bar code that says FoMoCo. In the corner of this label is a 5 digit number. This is the factory code.

Try turning the key on for ten minutes,then turn it off,and back on,leave it for ten minutes,then turn it off,and back on for ten more minutes,then off,a total of 30 minutes,then try and start,this relearns the fob.

u must install the fuses for the system in he underhood heavy duty fuse box, it will be marked trailer tow
