1997 Mazda 323 Familia a/t wont run immediately

I have a 1997 Mazda 323 Familia automatic with 1.6 liter EFI engine.My problem is, sometimes when you engage the drive it wont run immediately. It just revs. This is specially when the engine is cold.I already changed the ATF but the problem persists.

    Thanks telly head.But what is wrong with the torque converter, do I need to replace it? And how will i check the shifter alignment?

Sorry buddy, but the selunoids valves are not good, when you remove the trans filter you will find. A good mechanic could do the job because if you do not install the wires properly it will be a mess.

Sounds like torque converter but also check shifter alignment.

Some are supposedly lifelong use! The normal way is to drain the ATF and measure it. You repace with the same amount. Overfilling causes problems.

Remember you have pre loaded cam gear's that have to be loaded, or it will make kinda of a lifter noise but not lifter's.

step #1 17-19 ft.lbs
step #2 additional 85-95 deg

it seems that the gear bushings have worn out. you need to take your car to a mechanic to have the bushings changed. Also, please check it your car has enough Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Fuel overconsumption
The distributor is not going to help an over fueling problem. If this car is EFI and the plugs are black, that is an indication of running very rich. Is black smoke present at the tail pipe?
