Battery Won't stay charged, and won't charge either.

OK...It all began when I got to my work... When I was getting there my audio (all CD and Radio) stopped working, then after the work the car wouldn't start... I mean it made a clicking noise. I've replaced the Starter (Brand New with a warranty on it) after that my battery wouldn't charge... I've changed the Alternator which has the lifetime warranty on it. Still the battery wouldn't charge, and the voltage is at about 10V (with nothing on) Got it to the store I got it from, and they've tested it. It was OK, but the needle was flickering a bit, so I've just changed it (to be on the safe side) Still no change... Checked the fuses, and the stuff, nothing. Plus one weird thing happened. My windows started working(they didn't want to work for some reason, and now decided to work...)
Thanks, would really appreciate any help, because I need my car really bad!

PSĀ
Charged my battery at home fine, but not in the car...

It's about 9 volts, and engine is running at 1000RPM for some reason... Aslo if you're going to turn one of the turn signals on, then the lights will get dimmed, and the "Brake, Air Bag, and other lights will go on on the dash board" and then the lights on the dash board will go away.

It DID test good, in the 2 stores I went to today! And the battery is fine... I've charged it with my charger at home, but the car just wouldn't charge it for some reason...

May be YOU need to LEARN a bit more about THIS stuff...

  • maxim5507 Aug 17, 2009

As the matter of fact I DID state that I had a NEW alternator, and starter.

"I've replaced the Starter (Brand New with a warranty on it); I've changed the Alternator which has the lifetime warranty on it."

Those are the exact sentences from my first explanation about the problem (when I created this post)

    PS
Next time please read posts more carefully, Thanks!
Also I wasn't getting angry, just a bit mad because I really need my car fixed...

Thanks, but I'm not sure this is what exactly happens. Now that I've replaced alternator, the car starts good, and when idle for 10-15 min the charge drops from about 12-14 volts to 8-10 volts, and I've changed the alternator today (happened on two completely new alternators) When got to store, they've checked out to be OK.

THEN YOU'RE ARE MISSING SOMETHING, YOU NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING UNTIL NOW ABOUT NEW PARTS, SO I GAVE ADVICE BASED ON THE IMPRESSION THIS WAS A NEW PROBLEM, SUGGEST U TAKE IT TO A DEALER. IN THE FUTURE STATE EVERYTHING, DON'T GIVE UP INFO ONE BIT AT A TIME, SORRY FOR YOUR PROBLEM BUT GETTING ANGRY AT ME WILL GET YOU NOTHING. I AM GOING TO MOVE ON

What is the alternator output voltage with everything turned (lights, ac blower on high etc.) and engine at 1500 RPM?

try the premium question option if you can't figure this out, but have the alternator tested and the battery.

So you got a new battery, alternator, and starter. The ticking noise with the starter meant that you had a bad battery so I don't think you needed to have replaced it, but since it was under warranty, didn't hurt.

As for the battery itself when tested, it should not read 10V as that means it's not holding a charge. The battery should read 12-12.5Volts across the leads when the car is off. When the car is running, the battery should be reading 13-14Volts across the leads, anything lower means the alternator is not charging your battery, anything higher means the alternator is over charging.

have alternator tested for amperage and voltage. if those are ok check all connections, clean if discoloration or corrosion is found.

The battery won't stay charged

Hi it is possible that you Alternator is faulty,if you have access to a VoltMeter ,check the battery voltage in the morning before you try to start it you should have around 12.7 volts for a charged battery if not fully charge your battery again and check the voltage with your car running you should have around 14 volts with the engine reving at 1500 revs.ifyou get around 12 volts then your lights are taking more power from the battery than the Alternator can replace. You could also get your local garage to Drop Test your battery to see if any of the Cells are faulty

My asb light comes on when starting and stays on. Lights won't come on , power locks won't work, power windows won't work, radio won't work. All fuses are good and car runs fine.

Those are all really common symptoms of the alternator going bad on those cars. I would have it checked to make sure it's charging properly.

1992 Mazda mpv . Won't hold charge . Engine won't

The first thing to do is have the battery tested, just because you charged it doesn't mean it will stay charged if the cells are sulfated up or shorted.

Sounds like battery or battery cable problems to me.
If the battery is bad, you cannot trust ANYTHING the computer is telling you. They tend to set all kinds of codes when the battery has a shorted cell. (including fuel pump circuit and transmission system codes) They get "delirious" from malnutrition. You need to have your charging/starting system thoroughly tested.

Have 97 acura won't stay charge changed battery

the battery wont stay charged? if youre putting in a fully charged battery and your car runs, but then the battery slowly dies, the problem will be your alternator. the alternator is what maintains a car batteries charge. try replacing the alternator. hope this helps.
