I have a 2006 nissan sentra se with less then 38000 miles on it..Today i went to take my kids to register for school and it seems to not be shifting correctly..This is an automatic transmission and it was driving like it was in 2nd gear but i had it in drive

Still under warrenty?

Check engine light should end up coming on if it continues to do this, sounds like shift solinoid may be faulty.

There maybe another wire thats receiving power. A radio comes with 2 power wires, one that hooks directly to the battery/fuse panel, and the other to your ignition switch. Check and see if the wires are connected the right way, usaully the red is the battery, and yellow goes to the switch.

Where is your reverse located? from you description, I'm guessing it's next to 1st. It sounds like you may have a bad linkage or the knob is off. You should be able to adjust this under the car. You'll see a cable running from the gearbox to the transmission...

04 nissan sentra shifting hard

Do you have a CVT? (Continuosly Variable Transmission) I doubt that you do so if you dont, nissans are known to have hard shift into second gear you mean.(Once the car moves, its already in first gear) so if it shifts fine into other gears, I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets worse.

check the transmission selector rod, it just happened to my car last week. i could do reverse when i found out it broke. one thing that might caused it is too much pressure applied on the stick shift.

you probably have a clogged valvebody or a shift solenoid is failed you will have to take it to a tranny guy and have him check it
