Take it to the dealer, the EPC warning light - and even more the failsafe run which doesn't allow you drive faster than 20mph) is an indication of serious motor troubles. They can read the ECU faultcodes, which should be a good startingpoint for troubleshooting the cause ...

You could do some basic troubleshooting like checking the air filter, the oil level, the spark plugs, etc. You didn't fill it up with bad gas, did you ? And does the engine make strange noises/vibration when running idle ? In case you fixed some obvious cause, you can dis- and reconnect the battery to erase the engine's faultcode. If it's not fixed, the EPC (and failsafe run) will simply come on again.

My advice would be not to drive it untill it's fixed to prevent more potential damage.

sure get the car serviced is the answer.
Electronic Power Control warning light, is an indicator pointing to issues with your Volkswagen's throttle system. This could mean that the throttle pedal, throttle body, traction control, or cruise control unit need attention.

it means get it service,
or if DIY, not told that.
we scan the PCM .
it then tells my which end is failing, TB or right foot throttle. pots.

EPC, when glows, the cars power is restricted to 20 mph on most carfs
or if bad engine, the car can;'t drive at all.

Toyota was sued for 1billion bucks with a B. and now all car makers are
really scared. they be next and like magic, TWB throttle by wire is now on all cars. made. no more throttle cables to rust and jam and mom runs over kids.
it is SOLVED.
get it serviced
or get it scanned or you scan it.

I have a 2003vw jetta the epc light is on and the will not come out of park nor the stop lights come on,I have already changed the brake switch and still won't work..

EPC light should have nothing to do with the shift interlock,(EPC is traction control) should be a small cap or plug on the console, near the shifter that has the interlock disengage button, usually done with a key, check shift interlock in the owners manual.
