In order to ck the switch you must remove the steering wheel.... there will be a small spring loaded roller and a brass connecting plate. When you press the horn button this completes the circuit and allows the horn to go on.

SOURCE: horn starts blowing randomly

do you have a alarm on it. If so you need to disable it or turn it off. Other wise you have a short somewhere in your horn. disconnect the horn under the hood. Its usually upfront and looks llike a flat black circular device that has one wire going to it, unless you have a alarm then it may have more.

SOURCE: Horn doesn't work

Hi

You need to check the live feed to the connection wire, at the horn, with a 12v test light, when the horn button is pressed.
It could be the horn its-self has packed up ?

Good Luck !

SOURCE: rear drum removal 1998 ford escort

Hi,
Removing the drums can be a little difficult if they are really worn and. have a large lip inside where the brake shoes have worn them down.
Anyway here goes, loosen wheel nut/s slightly, raise the car and make safe by using an axle stand or similar then lower it so the wheel is off the ground.
Remove all nut/s and take wheel to one side, you'll then see the whole of the drum, there should be 1 or 2 retaining Philips type screws between the locating holes for the wheel, these need to be removed possibly with an impact screwdriver if too tight.
Once screws are out release the hand brake, hopefully the drum will rotate, try waggling it from side to side along it circumference pulling the drum towards you, it may move a few mm then lock? try using a very heavy rubber mallet to thump the outside edge of the drum whilst turning it. This hopefully will loosen the brake shoes holding the drum on you may need to keep doing this for a good while.
If you have no success then try carefully doing the same with a copper/hide hammer. Still no joy then possibly the lip inside is too great meaning the drums maybe beyond their wear limit so a good belt with a heavy lump hammer is the only way.
I hope this helped? please press the Blue button if happy with my FREE Efforts, Thank You!

Check the horn relay

  • Horn relay located above the interior fuse junction panel. Hope this helps. Also check the ground wire to horn, if in doubt run a wire from horn base to some other ground.

Why does my horn keep going off out of nowwhere?

The contact brush may be grounding on something other than the horn button contact. The wires run up the steering column tube and may be damaged inside.

Alternately the relay or it's wiring may be at fault. Or if it occurs more often when it is wet, this Technical Service Bulletin likely applies

1998 Ford Escort Electrical System Service Bulletin 71979

Additionally if you have the keyless security system, there were at least one TSB issued that may be relevent.

Was in an a car acident in my 96 ford escort. The air bags did go off. Still able to drive, except the horn will not stop going off. I can't find a fuse for the horn.

the horn fuse also runs the shift lock. Recommend you see if you can find the horn relay in the box by the battery and pull that out. If not that, you can always pull the connectors off the horns. The horns are usually in the grille area or in the fender near the headlights.

Rear wheel bearings keep going after only a short period of use.

When you install the bearing are you replacing the complete hub? The torque spec for this is 130-174 ft.lbs. Also are the rims and tires of stock size?
