What are you going to do with the shift control module , as you call it ? It's called a TCM - transmission control module . Are you going to change it in hopes it fixes your problem , if it is a problem . Do you have a factory scan tool an service repair information ? If you change the module it will need programming more then likely . Do yourself a favor an take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: 1995 jeep laredo overdrive is not shifting

Your overdrive should kick in at about 45mph, pretty much at or about 2000rpm. To see if it engaged, lightly touch the brake pedal and it will disengage. It should also disengage when you mash the pedal down to go into passing gear, and re-engage when conditions "normalize" again. You can tell that it has engaged because the tach will drop a few hundred rpms. If it's not doing this, a simple trans oil change (with filter) may correct the problem. OD is activated by a shift solenoid on the valve body that may be a bit gummed up.
95's show a shift control module on some diagrams I've seen, but not on others. I read this as a possible "half-year change" So you may or not have one. If you do, I'd check that as well!

here are the OD words off the 46h page

Overdrive Control Switch
The overdrive control switch is located in the instrument
panel. In the On position, automatic shifts
into fourth gear overdrive will occur. In the Off position,
the switch overrides the powertrain control module
preventing a shift to overdrive fourth gear range.
The switch has an indicator light that illuminates
when overdrive is turned off. The switch also resets
when the ignition key is turned to the OFF position
so that the automatic overdrive feature is restored.
The use of fault codes is employed to help diagnose
the electronic components that operate the overdrive
unit and torque converter clutch.

Wont shift down or go into overdrive

I think that the modulator valve has failed. It isn't a tough fix. Get a new one and replace it and you should be okay.

I have a 1999 jeep cherokee that has intermitant transmission problems 1)shifting up it wind out to 2k-3k before shifting 2) at higher speed it feels as if it slips out of overdrive rpm increase but speed...

It will shift out of overdrive upon increasing throttle , pulling hills and so on. Your overdrive probably kicks in around 35 to 45mph and kicks back out as you increase throttle. Electrically controled speed sensor to control the response. Overwise the engine would bog down to a stall. Over drive is just that. It changes the gearing ratio to over drive meaning less then final gear 4 to 1 down to 4 to 3 etc more direct drive ratio to lessen consumtion of fuel with less stress on engine. Have shift speed sensor adjusted. Don't drive in overdrive in city if most driving is under 45mph

I have a 97 buick regal which won't shift gears until about 4500 rpms, or if i don't reach that mark in town, when i go to accelerate it will only rev up (like its in neutral) until it hits the 4500 rpm...

Without more info I would say you are low on fluid if it leaked out and that needs to be fixed or the trans needs to be pulled and disassembled to find the cause. You always look for other issues first such a computer data, and solenoids, modules etc in or out of trans.

TRANSMISSION

sounds like either a bad speed sensor or controller. shift points are too high, should be at 2000 or slightly less. if fluid is good and clean and shifts do not flair, check those control units. Not sure about calibrate...could mean out of calibration...Id ask
another tech about that. (i don't know everything!)

OD light on 97 Jeep comes on when it's cold outside

Calvin...... You need to treat your Jeep to a new THERMOSTAT. The Overdrive is connected to the engine coolant temperature and if the engine is n ot warmed up properly, the Overdrive will not engage. Try to get a thermostat from the Jeep dealer so you will have exactly the right one, some of the cheapoie ones will not work right. Dave in Iowa

Jeep erradic in shifting

I would look into replacing the VSS which is the vehicle speed sensor, it is the input that tells the transmission when to go into overdrive and the torque converter to lock up, also make sure the connector is clean and tight to the sensor, this part is located on the side of the trans where the speedo cable would go.
