99 Blazer will not engage 4x4

I just picked up a 99 S10 Blazer that has an issue with the 4x4.

It has the (3) light switch. When the truck is turned on the lights do light up during the check process. After that, the switches do NOT light up at all and I can not get the 4x4 to engage. After driving a few miles the Service 4x4 Light comes on.

There are no unusual noises or vibrations when driving forward. However, when I go in Reverse and make slow sharp turns, there is some vibration underneath the truck.

Can someone tell me the Troubleshooting process or where (on the Net) I can find info on my setup ?

Thank you!

4x4 actuator may be bad. its has an elctrical switch. this is the part that pushes your front drive shaft forword to engage the front diff. it also may not be aligned properly. You should also check your transfer case fluid level and the front diffs fluid.

My 1986 chevy s10 4x4 truck transfer case is not engaging and the lights for the 4x4 is not indicating anything.i changed the contral switch and nothing. anything else i could try?

I had a 1987 s10 4x4 and put a new battery in it and the 4x4 quit. turns out the vacuum control is right behind battery. listen for sucking sound and see if it is loose on yours.

Transfer case not engaging push botton 1994 s10

These 3 things are common on S 10 and S15 GM 4x4 trucks and SUV's!

1.Switch in dash.
2. Actuator motor on transfer case.
3.Vacuum leaks between Engine,Transfer Case and Front axle actuator.

Ive go a 1990 s10 4x4. The lights dont come on for 4hi.

First check the connection at the switch. I have found alot of the time the switch has been the prob. 2nd,the selinoid[electric] at the transfer case may need to be taken apart and cleaned if it has not been used for a while...hope this helps.

1987 s10 chevy truck 4x4 not engaging

By the way, if that happens again (Same thing happened to me) It was inside the front diff. That vacuum actuator that sits on the passenger side that has a vacuum hose going up to it has a built in cable that plugs into the front diff. There are little springs that go bad and there is no tension on the cable. It retracts but doesn't engage the axle.

It's 3 bolts, then pry it open just enough to get access to the spring that holds the cable together. ;) That's how I fixed my problem permanently
