It is not hard at all. remove all but one pan bolt and put your catch basin under the whole pan. Use a hand held socket to remove the last bolt. Just slightly loosen it and see if the pan comes down on its own, if not, use a flat head screw driver and gently tap it between the case and the pan until it releases. once you break it way, continue to slowly loosen the pan until the fluid comes out. If by some remote chance this is the first time it has been change you will find a funny shaped plastic item that looks like a top. Throw it away, it was a plug for the filler tube from the factory. Line up your torque converter until you see a pipe plug sitting at 6 o'clock. pull that plug out and drain the TC. put a dab of loc tight or sealer on the pipe thread when you put it back in.

Take the pan after you have cleaned it and use a ball pean hammer to pound out the bolt hole. Lay the edge of the pan on the edge of a surface and gently tap each hole so it is flush with the gasket surace or even a little lover than the metal surface. When you install the pan bolts becarfull not to crossthread. start each one by hand and do not, I repeat do not use air tools to put the bolts back in. Tighten them by hand and tighten them to the torque spec for your car. If you can't find them, watch the gasket and tighten them until you just see the gasket start to move out. Stop there. Move around the pan in a cross pattern and then go around with a final snug one bolt at a time to be sure you did not miss any.

Pretty simple, just drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket. If you leave a couple of bolts in one corner of the pan about halfway in, when you break loose the pan it will be a little easier to catch the old oil as most of it will run out the opposite side. This method will change the fluid in the transmission, but not the fluid in the converter. Usually this is not an issue unless the fluid is water contaminated or extremely dirty.

Check level and condition of your transmission fluid. If your transmission fluid is turning brown or if your vehicle has not had a transmission fluid and filter change in 5 years or 50,000 miles, do that right away before you fry your transmission.

How often should the automatic transmission fluid fluid be changed in a 2003 Mustang?

Ford calls for every 90,000 miles in the maintenance schedule, as a long time ford dealer tech I think that is to long, for max transmission life do the change every 60,000 miles.

Yes i would like to know how to flush transmission fluid on 1998 ford mustang?

Flushing transmission fluid in any vehicle requires a machine that hooks into the systems via the transmission coolant lines and forces new fluid in and old fluid out.

You can change the fluid, without flushing the system, by removing the transmission pan.It is located on the bottom if the motor. Let all the fluid drain out, and replace the pan with a new gasket. You can then refill the fluid.

Good Luck!!

1990 automatic mustang troubleshooting

If the fluid level is proper and the fluid is not burned or contaminated, there is not much else you can do with this except slip into the transmission repair shop and have it repaired.

If the fluid has been contaminated (water) or smells burned, you could change it ... but it will just be a matter of time until you are in a emergency situation - stranded.

2002 toyota sienna change transmission fluid and

The drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission. Its torqued to 49 nM.
1. Remove tranny oil pan drain plug
2. Drain old fluid (roughly 2-4 quarts)
3. Reinstall drain plug.
4. Measure amount drained in a 99 cent orange juice pitcher from Walmart
5. Pour back the same amount drained using Toyota Type T-IV fluid (available in 1 quart bottles from a Toyota dealer.
6. Start engine and shift slowly through all the gears ending in Park.
7. Check fluid level on the dipstick. Add fluid, if necessary, to bring the level to a point inbetween the COLD and HOT marks on the dipstick.
8. Go for a 20 minute drive and recheck fluid level. Add fluid, if necessary, to bring the level up to,
but not beyond, the upper half of the HOT range on the dipstick.

As in 1973, NO FLUSHING is needed and NO FILTER REPLACEMENT is needed, NO PAN REMOVAL is needed. As, as in 1973 todays Toyotas have a metal mesh filter screen that doesn't ever get clogged except in rare cases of transmission operational abuse, including failure to ever change the fluid for 150,000 miles or more.

Check the transmission fluid level and cleanliness.
