On my 1997 ford
thunderbird the speedometer does not work sometimes? Its analog by the way. Once i start
driving it sometimes take a mile for it to star working. when it doesnt
work at all then the odometer and trip won't work. With this there is a
rough shift while driving goin between 30 and 40 mph. But it doesnt shift rough all the time. i think it is all
relate.
You need to check the speed sensor in your rear differential. It should be held in with one 10mm bolt and then you can pull it out of the housing. You will probably find some metal on the end of it, because it is magnetic. This is due to wear in the differential. If you clean the metal residue off of the sensor and re-install it should clear up the problem. While you are there, it would be a good time to check the fluid in the differential as well.
