The tires (265/65/17 Michelin Cross Terrain SUV) on my 2007 Lexus GX470 are failing prematurely. “Cupping” noticed on the inner circumference of the tires after 15K-20K miles causing vibration in the steering wheel at freeway speeds. The threads on my newest set of tire are great after 19K miles, but deformation is causing reduced ride quality at high speeds.
I don't know what 'cupping' is. If you mean wear, then it is probably down to having incorrect tracking set on the car. Go to a garage and get the toe out checked. If your tracking is out, you will wear the edge of the tyres. Over inflation will cause the centre of the tyre to wear, and under inflation will cause the outer and inner band of the tread to wear.
The vibration may be caused by the loss of wheel weights. Maybe knocked off by hitting a kerb which also may be the cause of the tracking being out. Driving over a deep pot hole in the road can have the same effect.
