95 previa SC tranny slipping after flush?

I have a 95 previa w/ 165,000 miles just a baby for previas...had the transmission and radiator flushed... now the tranny slips at low rpms...previous to that it had an occasional miss (engine) ...i went back to the repair shop to see if they filled the tranny properly...they said it's an engine issue not the tranny ...i took ti to the dealership and they say it the SC ...it has parameters programmed into the computer that cause the SC to 'choke' when the engine has wear and 'wobbles'...is there anyone out there who has had this issue ...short of having the engine overhauled is there any way around the SC specs..? can the computer be reprogrammed to a wider range ??? or could this be something that the technition is missing?

Previa ECMs CANNOT be 'reflashed". Whoever told you that the SC is programmed to 'choke' is lying to you; there is no such thing. That is the same with the slip, the engine cannot cause the trans to slip. Get another opinion from a credible mechanic. The one you have has no clue.

1998 GS manual Previa with 140k on clock. Has recently started slipping in 4th gear - if changing up from 3rd or down from 5th its asthough something isn't engaging and no further power from the car can...

Sounds like your transmission has come to the end of its life. You can try getting the transmission flushed , and an additive I.E. No Slip added. That might cure some of the problems but obviously if its slipping the clutchs inside are worn out and transmission needs an overhaul.

My transmission is slipping . How do I check the Fluid

You have to go under the car and check the level. It is much like the engine oil drain on other american cars. It is a nut/bolt where you have to eyeball the level of the fluid. There is no traditional dipstick under the hood. It has a sealed transmission and you need a special tool to check fluid levels. slipping transmission usually occur on high miles cars form worned or defects if its low miles. My personal opinion is that truck, suv and vans i recommend transmissions flush every 75k on hard driving or lots of pulling and 100k on normal driving. the only best thing to do is to take it to the shop, have it flush with new filter and see if it solved the issue, if not than you have transmission problems. again the tranny oil can be dirty and clogs up the valves in the tranny may cause it to slip and not engaged. if you have to replace the tranny, get it from junk yard or ebay for 300-400 bucks, rebuilt one will cost you much more.

Antifreeze in transmission,

You could possibly have a internal crack in the radiator, this is not un herd of because the transmission cooler is the side tank of the radiator, they are separated by a internal metal divider and its possible for the radiator to crack forcing antifreeze into the transmission cooler section of the radiator, because of the timing of this incident i would not stray from human error as a major possibility, but its not impossible for this to happen on its own and i have seen it before, its also possible they did not change the fluid in the flush machine from a previous job (that had water in the fluid) i would recheck the tranny fluid now and make sure its not watered down and overfilled, also be sure your coolant is not low, if these check out, then your shop owes you a brand new transmission and thats great because they aren't the best ones on the market and have a high failure rate anyway, best of luck to you and please rate this solution -Jeff
