Typical fuel pump issue.. Usually around $600 to have it done. The tech would check for pressure and then test the ground and the power souce for a voltage drop. If all this is not done to verify you need a 600 dollar pmp you cold be just throwing parts at it as you go.

93 Ford Ranger 2.3L manual running fine. Engine suddenly bogged down and died. Engine turns over, but won't start. Acts like it is not getting fuel. When you turn key you can hear fuel pump prime.

Just because you can hear the pump run, doesn't mean it is supplying enough fuel to properly operate the injectors. You need to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If you have at least 45# of fuel pressure at the rail, you need to make sure that the injectors are metering. If memory serves me, I believe they are fired by the pickup in the distributor, but 93 is right when they were phasing into DIS ignition.

Started motor fine a few minutes later it died and would not start again had wife crank over while i look in carb no gas spraying into carb prime with gas and it would run for a sec then die again...

When you state "carb" I assume you mean TB as it should be Throttle Body Injection, unless it was converted.
You should be able to hear the fuel pump in the tank prime for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key on. May have to get your helper to remove the gas cap and listen through the filler.
If you don't hear a buzzing sound then check the relays on the firewall. You can turn the key off, wait a couple seconds and then turn the key on and have your helper listen and feel for the relay that clicks.
Or look for the wires,
The relay will have a dark green/white from the ECM
Grey is power to the pump when the relay is enegized.
Orange is hot at all times. It comes from the ECM B fuse. Should check that as well if not done so.
Black/white is a ground.

Now most likely if your relay clicks when the key is turned on then its all fine and the fuel pump has gone out. The oil pressure switch also enegizes the pump when there is oil pressure.

Timing spec. 1998 chev 1500 pickup with a 5.7 liter

you need a scan tool to check the timing. You can get close by getting the #1 piston at top dead center, and then dropping the distributor back in, making sure it lines up with the oil pump shaft. then rotate the distributor back and for untill it runs smooth. again this will only get you close. you will still want to have a mech. check with a scan tool.
