Have you noticed black exhaust smoke and/or smell fuel? If so the engine may be running rich which could certainly cause a lack of acceleration.
Is the CEL ( Check Engine Light ) on? If so, have the vehicle scanned.
Is the idle smooth and does the engine rev freely? If no to either or both, you may have a vacuum problem.

It could also be a clogged catalytic converter, or clogged gas tank vent lines. Remove the gas cap after the car slows down and you pull over. Do you hear a wush sound from air rushing in? If so unhook the vent line(s) at the charcoal canister and use compressed air to blast out dirt. As for the clogged cat. remove the front O2 sensor and try driving. If the car doesn't slow down now, replace the catalytic converter and re-install the O2 sensor.

Will not run over 25 mph

check your speed sensor and your crank position sensor. I did a clutch job on my RIO and forgot to plug the crank sensor in all the way and it wouldn't go above 25 Mph. If that doesn't work, try replacing your Mass air flow sensor, it sets on top of your throttle body and bolt to your air box.

My '01 impala 3.4 v-6 flat spots when COLD, at around 20mph. the idle is ruff with random misfires. acceleration is overall poor. when HOT, most symptoms go away leaving only some slight acceleration...

depending on mileage, but possible tune-up could fix it. if already done then check ignition coil pack and ignition wires also spark plugs, check vacuum hoses for leaks or porous, last injectors clogged - use some techron fuel injector cleaner (wal-mart has them). Also get the throttle body and iac valve cleaned by throttle cleaner . Also this other possibilities are to be checked and confirmed.:---- Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1.Defective spark plugs
2.Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Manifold absolute pressure sensor
12.Mass Airflow Sensor
13.Idle air control valve

--------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

2003 ford exp 4.6L jerks between 45-55 mph. just had complete tune up all plugs were changed out, fuel filter etc...

Replace TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) It's a rheostat that controls throttle. After time and mileage it develops hot spots/wear in areas that get most use. In your case the 45-55 mph area of rheostat. Your description is spot on to symptom of bad TPS.

01 ford ranger 4x4 4.0V6-- rough idle like it wants to cut off. loses power or studders under acceleration. struggles to get up to 55 or 60

I agree. Try replacing the spark plugs, install new spark plug wires, change the air filter, change the fuel filter, and test the battery and alternator. Run a bottle of fuel system cleaner and water remover through it. To replace the spark plugs you'll most likely have to go through the wheel wells cause of their hard accessibility from the top. The fuel filter is located on the inside of the frame on the driver's side. Hope this helps. God bless
