1998 windstar van: two weeks ago, car died in street and had to be towed. since then, checked battery - still ok, but recharged anyway overnight at a shop. the van now starts but the charging system lights goes off/on repeatedly within a few blocks...i am concerned about the car dying again in the street... we replaced the alternator about 2 yrs ago...any ideas?
It could mean the alternator has gone bad already... with the car off, the battery leads should read 11-12V.. with the car on, the battery should read 13-14V.. if it's lower then it's not charging your battery and if it's higher, it's damaging your battery....
