Hello rdwall01...I have run across this problem on the Sebring a few times...First check your brake switch, make sure you have brake lights and fuses are good. The shifter solenoid works on electrical input from the brake switch...If that checks out ok... take the trim ring off around the shifter. Carefully lift it by hand, it pulls off. Look thru the crack on the left of the shifter. There's a pink plastic lever with a silver wire attached to it. Push this toward the rear of the car with a flat screwdriver while the car is running and your foot is on the brake pedal. The shifter will release from park... now you can take the console out while the shifter is in neutral...there should be a spring attached to the plastic lever, this is what usually breaks off.
Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

I have a 2006 charger hemi, the gear stuck in park. How do I get it ou of park

its might have something to do with your brake lights. if the computer doesnt sense the brake lights come when u hit the pedal it wont release the car from park. to temporarily get your car out of park, remove the coin tray that on the side of the shifter, just give it a good tug, ull see a pink lever the console, just push the pink level while shifting the handle and you'll be good to good. fyi u only need to push that pink lever when shifting from park.

Car wont come out of park

First try the override - remove the cup holder liner, stick your finger in the hole and lightly push on the override switch (all in user manual). If this doesn't work you have a small spring that has shot off the cheap plastic hook that holds it in place. Remove the shifter knob (lifts straight up), Unsnap shifter assembly cover (use small screwdriver), remove coin tray thing in front of shifter. Remove PRND panel (again this all just snaps in place (look for tabs)). On the left side of the shifter you should see a pink plastic piece with a cable connected to it. Pull it toward the rear of the vehicle while attempting to put in reverse. The spring is probably shot off or hanging from this pink thing. I drilled a small hole in mine and reattached the spring or new spring if your like me and couldn't find the old one. You will have to remove the four bolts that mount the shifter assembly to replace the spring. About a 1-2 hr job.

Chrysler sebring is locked in park

Had this happen to me yesterday.  Remove the liner in the cup holder.  There is a hole that you can stick your finger in to push the gear release lever forward.  If that does not work, pull up the chrome bezel around the gear shift.  there is a pink piece of plastic attached to a spring, push that down and towards the rear of the car and you should be able to shift freely until you put it in park again.  Make sure the car is running and your foot is on the brake while trying either solution.

Gear shift stuck i n park, what do i do?

Hi,
Try releasing your parking brake and having someone push or rock your car. Sometimes the gearbox gets stuck in Park if the car moves after you put the car in Park and let the car roll a bit before applying the handbrake. It could also be a fault with the gearbox itself.
Its also possible that the locking tab mechanism (that gets relesed when you press the button on your auto gear shift) has jammed. If you can get it out of Park do not put the car back into Park ,but rather put it in Neutral after you have finished driving around etc and use the hand brake when parking. At least you wont be stuck in Park until you get it to the repair shop. Note that your car can roll in Neutral, especially if your parking brakes are worn, so take extra care when parking ie point your wheels toward the kerb when parking on any hills or slopes.
Any time your gearbox gets stuck its a fair bet that you need to get your gearbox inspected by an authorized repairer.
Good luck,
Steve (Melbourne, Australia)

Gear shift stuck in park

The BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) has a small spring retainer on the park safety. A small plastic tab breaks & releases the spring. This requires the shifter to be disassembled in order to be repaired.

Repaired mine Sunday May 1st and can provide detailed instructions if desired.

If you are lucky, your brake interlock is the only problem. There is a bypass switch located beside the gear selector. Remove the small "cubby" bin located next to the gear shift by simply lifting up to remove. You will note a small access port and a pink button contained therein. Press the pink button to override the brake interlock.

If you still cannot shift into park, then the shifter must be removed for the spring repair. Even if yours is still under warranty, you will get another shifter that will eventually fail due to poor engineering.

Please let me know if you would like my assistance.

Shift gear is locked I removed the cup holder and pushed in the lever and it still wont go into gear

If your parked on a hill you may have torque lock,if facing down hill you need to push car up hill to release shifter, if facing up hill you need to push car up hill to release shifter. To stop this from happening again apply park brake before putting into park.

It is stuck in park

ok first step is to take off the rubber cover (change holder) on the shifter. there is a pink tab push the pink tab down with a long screw driver. If it still is stuck in park the interlock spring is broken in the shifter u would need a shifter assembly 99% of the time this is the problem good luck.

The sifter wont move form park.

I have the same car and problem..if you take apart the cup holder, and the silver plates around the shifter, you'll see bright pink parts. There is pink on the left side and the right side, its probably the right side pink part that broke. If you push that pink part towards the cup holders you can move it out of park. That piece broke and will need to be replaced.

Car will not come out of park when you apply brake and push button on shifter

park brake switch not releasing, it is in the gear selector panel and locks the shifter into park, when you depress the brake pedal it unlocks the shifter from park. it is not hard to fix. make sure to replace it don't just remove it. you have to remove the top of the shifter lever to remove the panel and some screws in the rear cup holder and a couple of screws towards the front of the panel in the storage compartment.

Shift light replacement

First, the bulb is a GE 158.
There are two screws near the back of the parking brake cover (one each side). Move the seats forward to remove them.
After removing the parking brake cover (helps to raise the parking brake), there are two screws at the back of the shift console.
Remove those two screws. Pull out the four 'serrated' push pins under the dash area holding the shift console (two each side). Then pull the cup holder up and out.
You should then be able to remove the shift console. One suggestion- if you need to move the shifter out of park, make sure your parking brake is on! There is a shift release you can depress with a small screwdriver under the little button/tab to the right of the shifter. (Can also be reached under the console with your finger after removing the cupholder.)
The bulb holder is on the driver's side. Only one I assume.
Good Luck,
Robert
