Check engine light came on and my car is shaking when i accelerate. what is wrong with my car?

Drive to Autozone,they will scan for free and tell you what code comes up and what is wrong.

How about timing? How about the distributor and rotor? What about the timing chain?

Year make and model ??
You would need to have the computer scanned for the trouble codes. Was the engine running ok before you replaced the plugs and wires ?
Could have crossed two wires to the wrong cylinders ?

The check engine light needs to be addressed. Yes it could be a sensor but you need to know.
The light blinking means the problem is serious, such as a dead miss on one or more cylinders. The light being on means something is happening with the engine performance that could damage the catalytic converter.
Get the computer scanned - most auto parts stores will do it for free in hopes of selling you some parts. Once you have the codes research them online or here.

sounds like limp mode thats what to computer does to protect your engine take it to a mechanic and get a code search done
then fix eithor the knock or the sensor malfunction

Most likely you need motor mounts for the shaking and clunking.
The check engine light being on could cause the accelerating problem. It could be something as simple as the fuel filter being old and plugged up. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? This could cause the engine to run lean making the check engine light come on. And when accelerating the engine will be "starving" for fuel causing poor acceleration.
