2003 Olds Silhoutte Air Shocks and Compressor - not working

My repair shop says I need to replace the air shocks - 1 is leaking. The job is about $225 with $125 of that for the Monroe replacement shocks.

I could buy the GM parts for about $130 from gmpartsdirect.com.. does it mattter?

Also, right now, he compressor is not working ... when I press the activate button (like to pump up a tire), the yellow light on the switch just flashes fast.

I am wondering if the load leveling shock will even work if there is an issue with the compressor.

Thanks

The load leveling shock will not work if there is an issue with the compressor. If you buy the sir shock's, your going to have to address the compressor issue to even have the air shocks level the Silhouette. Once you have the compressor issue addressed, the shocks it's self is simple enough to replace that you can do it with common tools to save you some money. My wife has a Montana and we had the same problem, since we do not tow and really never hold that much weight. We replaced the rear shocks with Monroe Reflex Shocks, Found the van to be much more sturdy then the air shocks ever were and the good thing about them is there were lift time replacement at Parts Source. Regardless on which shocks your going to use, it's a good rule to replace both sides at the same time. The only difference in to reinstalling the air shocks is you need to reattach the air lines to the shocks and that's simple as removing the shocks it self. The shocks are only held on by two bolts,  one on top and one on bottom and should only take about 20 min each side to do since you have to jack the car up and remove the wheel for room, but you can remove the shocks it self without removing the wheel, it's your preference. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.

I take it the Monroe Reflex Shocks are not air shocks, so what do you do to the air lines that you disconnected and won't be using?

Just pull the fuse to the air ride system and have the lines secured from damages.

Replaced air shocks on my 2000 Silhouette in July 2009. Removing and replacing shocks was easy after removing rear wheels. Had two problems. First - had to replace all rubber hoses attached to the compressor as they had rotted. Accessing one of the fittings was not easy. Second - after disconnecting the retaining clip, could not get one of the air lines off the shock nipple because of rust buildup inside the nipple. When I cut the nipple off, the heat generated melted the plastic air line. The air line uses two O-rings retained by a flair at the end of the line to seal the connection. I had to cut the flair and the melted part off, reinstall the O-rings, insert the new end of the air line into the small hole leading from the nipple into the shock cylinder, then install the retention fitting. The 60-90 degree bend in the retention fitting seems to hold the line and O-rings in far enough so its not leaking air without the flair. I'm assuming the flair was an assembly line aid to retain the O-rings until the lines were installed and hooked up.

Can you tell me the size of the hoses you replaced and where you purchased them? I can't find any info on that anywhere!!!
    Thanks

98 ford expeditio rea rdropped

this probably has a Air load leveling suspension. It sounds like either there's a leak or the air compressor that keeps it inflated has failed.

A dealer or repair shop should be able to diagnose this.

I recommend replacing the rear shocks w/the NON-air shocks so this doesn't reoccur. SEARCH online for how to replace them.

Auto leveler compressor of 97 Olds LSS can be replaced or install new strut assembly. Will be 2 mths before i can afford either. Can I pump air into the shocks and make it stay there?

My 05 lesaber compressor quit working and what caused it to quit was the old air struts wore out and made the compressor run all the time causing it to over heat and burn out. Rather than replacing the air shocks and compressor my mechanic installed a set of air shocks and installed an air line from them to a spot below the trunk lid on the bottom of the trunk. They have what looks like the air nozzle for a spare tire I use an air compressor or even the air pump you blow up a spare tire. I keep about 60 pounds in them all the time and check the air pressure abour every three months. Cheaper doing it that way.

Our air suspension on our 2007 Mercedes r350 have stopped lifting

Your air pump or air shocks may have quit working. Mine would run but the shocks had an air leak. I had to get new air shocks and yes the air pump was shot so I replaced the air shocks and installed an air line below the license plate. I pump them up with my air compressor about every three months. The pump was too expensive for me.

Air ride suspension rear dont work how can i check whats wrong?

The 97 Caddie Seville STS has an air compressor located under the car just in front of the passenger side muffler, above the crossmember. It is a pretty weak compressor, and is only designed to slowly fill up the shocks. Probable issues are a blown compressor, or leaky shocks. Before replacing either make sure you have power going to the compressor, and air going to the shocks. No power to the compressor could be caused by a bad wire, relay, connector or fuse all of which are cheaper to fix. If you have power, check the little air lines leading to the shocks from the compressor to see if you have a leak. Airlines are much cheaper than shocks.

My right rear suspension is flat on my 2000 Buick LeSabre Custom. I can hear the air compressor working. On that one side, it rides like a "lowrider." Could I need new shocks.

Hello. A couple things may have happened.1, one of the rear air shocks could have blown out, or 2, you may have a air line leaking or broke. We are here to help you get your vehicle diag and repaired. Craig

My 1997 buick lesabre back suspension is bottoming out on the back

it should be air adjustable, if the pump is working, most of the time the shocks leak. have a shop ck out the rear shocks, if they leak, then verify that the pump is operational. Monroe offers replacements.
