MKIV VW GTI FUEL PROBLEM

Car had a recent history of issues, many codes of misfiring and MAF reading problems. Also engine crank position sensor issues. Assumed MAF was the reason (due to bad air mass reading). Finally dies via a stuttering stall with multiple misfires, no other codes. Fuel pump will not prime, fuse OK. Have not checked relay or wiring yet. Is the pump actually a common failure, or is the relay / wiring more suspect?

Car sputtering badly. Codes P303 n P102 show on diagnostics and have replaced both parts associated with these codes,PLUS, new fuel filter, engine still sputtering badly.

Hi,

I hope I can help with this. This could mean the engine spark plugs or plug is the issue. Also check the exhaust pipe. White smoke indicates a coolant issue. Check your coolant reservoir. Black smoke indicates a Fuel issue. Blue is an oil issue. Also, speaking of your spark plugs there very well could be a misfire.

the code P303 could be cylinder 3 misfire
P102 the mass air flow sensor which is on the air filter cover. It's an electrical part and is sensor. Please check these and let me know.

1996 avalon no power very sluggish revs up fine .has a miss. what are the causes for no power

If I were doing this on my own car, I would start with the cam and crank position sensors...if one of them is failing it will cause all kinds of mayhem in the engine... they need to be in sync to tell the engine where the crank is relative to the cams...for timing purposes. If the ECU can't tell where one of them is at a given moment, it may cause that "misfire" issue, but again, this is a starting point...Then there's the Throttle position sensor, the MAF sensor, the MAP sensor...the list just goes on...could be the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, injectors...etc. However, has the car been throwing any "codes" at you? if so, list them here.

My 2004 VW jetta GLS 1.8t is running like ****.

MAF or MAP sensors may cause such problems. they measure air on intake. if they are wrong on measuring car cant decide on fuel mixture.

in addition to that crank position sensors can be another cause for such ignition related problems. engine management can decide on exact timing of ignition happens in each cylinder.

I have an '02 VW Cabrio that is giving me random 171 and occasional 102 OBD codes. I looked for and found a split hose near the air filter housing and replaced. I've not found any others with...

1st have you replaced the O2 sensor? Here is the technical stuff about this fault code
OBD 2 fault code P0171 VOLKSWAGEN - Fuel control System To lean engine cylinder bank number #1.
Possible causes:
Possible causes- Intake air leaks, spray propane around the intake manifold gasket and all vacuum connections and listen for a change in the engine idle speeds, any change indicates a leak.
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor (a common cause if the car has over 50,000 miles on it)
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure Hook up a fuel gauge and make sure the fuel pressure is good/in specs under a load.
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection

VW CODES

Those codes mean there's an issue with your MAF, Throttle Body Sensor, Fuel System, Engine Misfires

Start with the MAF first as that can cause the other issues to appear (ex. fuel issue because your MAF says it needs more fuel so your engine is getting flooded and stalling.

Then look at the Throttle body and have the replaced if the issue still occurs... Then look at the fuel injectors and fuel delivery system (lines, gas tank, gas pump, etc)

Your engine misfires seem to be the result of any of the previous....
