1996 Chryslser Sebring Convertible leaks on left side from rain

When it rains heavily water accumulates in inches on the left side of our car. The rubber seals at the top of the windows have been checked and reglued. It still leaks. There is a loud sloshing sound coming from the left wheel well whenever we stop suddenly. When we park on an incline there is a small place on the left rear side of the car where water drips out.
We had 3 inches of rain in MN Friday night. Saturday our car had over 3 inches of rain in the front and rear floor of the left side of the vehicle. What can we do? My husband just rented a carpet cleaner and cleaned up the mess so it won't smell like moldy carpet. We would love to find a real answer to our problem. Any thoughts? Thanks, Joan

Water goes between the front and rear window and is supposed to go through a trough and drain out of the bottom of the car. often the drains along the bottom (4 very small slits) get clogged and water will back up into the floorboards. just drive a flat head screwdriver in these slits and it will let the water out! (watch out about 2 gallons came out of mine!)

Sebring convertible water intrusion

You probably have either a hole in the floorboard or the gromet that seals the e-brake cable is worn out or fallen out. Also a possible culprit is the gromets under the hood on the firewall.

98 sebring jxi convertible. water pools in my back floor board

Sebring Convertibles have weep holes under the body that get clogged with debris and cause the water to back up into the floor. Take a paper clip and straighten it to clean out the weep holes. The weep holes can be found just under the frame at the doors where there is a seam(about where the jack would go). Along this seam about ervery 12 or 16 inches there will be a small slot for the water to drain.

When it rains water in in the rear sloshing

The 1997 Sebring convertible has rocker panels (the metal that goes from front to back wheel well and directly under the doors) that have five drain channels each.  The sloshing noise occurs when the drain holes plug up and a rocker panel fills up with water.  Often, the water will then leak into the right rear footwell, soaking the carpet.  A quick fix is to locate the drain holes and run a flat (unused) twistem-tie (they come with your trash bags) through each hole several times.  Commonly, doing so will result in a deluge of water, along with spider web parts, leaf parts, and whatever else washed into the rocker panel fromo the rear window.

To find the drain holes, just 1) lie under the car with a flashlight, or 2) sit alongside the car with one of those mirrors that come on a telescoping stick.  Since I don't like to lie in dirty water, I use the mirror to guide my twistem-tie (or ice pick or spring wire or whatever) into each hole.  NOTE:  the drain holes are flat and run at a 30 degree angle from back to front on the right side and from front to back on the left side.

Water coming in to front passenger floor when it rains

The heater/airconditioner box under the dash has a drain hose to allow condensation to drain when the air conditioner is running. If this hose gets plugged, rain may accumulate in this box also (if it's raining heavily), as it comes in through the fresh air intake.

Look on the engine side of the firewall, probably on the passenger side, for a hose coming through the firewall that is not connected to anything. It is usually short, has a 90 degree bend, and the open end is down. Make sure that the end of this hose is not plugged.

Water on rear floorboards

Under the car are drainvalves in the rockers.
these are small slits with a rubber valve in it, located just before the rear wheel and after the front wheel.
These are stuck, You can open them up by just putting You finger or a screwdriver in there.
I had the same problem, causes water and bad smell in Your car.
This is common by these types of convertibles, and caused by dirt washed in there from rain etc.
No big deal to solve.
