03 eclipse GTS, automatic, 3.0 L V6, I hear a noise behind me, in the cabin, when I start the car. If I turn the key to "on" but do not start the car, I hear the noise for a short time then it stops. A clunking, grinding noise. The car starts fine and runs fine, even if we hear the noise before starting. Would this be a fuel pump problem? If it is, what should I do about it? If not, what could it be and what should I do about that?
No power antenna on our car. The noise sounds like a metal rasp being ground into a short piece of heavy metal pipe with a deep clunking noise in the background, very concerning. I almost wonder if it is the tail shaft of the transmission doing it, but we are not moving when it happens It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it is right at start up, and only for a second or two. Do you have a broken power antenna?if so the antenna motor is making noise with the broken antenna mast-if it is not related to the antenna-need more info.on what kind of noise you are hearing

is it a factory alarm or a aftermarket. if it is the after market then pull it out. if it is the factory just stuck the key in the ignition with the alarm going
try activating and deactivatin your alarm you can do this with the key pad or the key turn it twice to the lock position than turn it twice to the unlock position this will unlock both doors, needless to say if you are getting a little green light on your dash with a key in it it is the imbobilizer device when it is in imobilizer status it will not let the fuel injectors prime up
Anything is possible but if you want to know if #3 is really misfiring and hurting the performance try pulling the plug wire to cylinder # 3 with the engine off (so you don't get shocked) Now start the care and see how it runs. If it runs the same then #3 is really bad. In that case imagine how much better it would run if #3 was up and operating correctly.
This almost always if different depending on the shop you take you car to. The best way is to look in your owners manual, pick your diving conditions, normal or extended use, and see what Mistubishi recommends. Should be at least, oil change,rotate,brake inspection, air filter, spark plugs, plug wire set, timing belt. On a Mits with over 100k miles I always recommended Distbutor cap and rotor, Transmission flush(for auto), Induction flush.
