I started hearing a slight screeching noise that seems to be coming from the front tire on the driver side WHILE I'm driving. I know Dodge makes poor quality brakes and it screeches when I brake. But now it has started screeching while I'm driving. The noise doesn't happen continuously. It stops, then starts up again. I only started hearing this noise yesterday but I want to fix it before it gets worse. I drove the car 180 miles 4 days ago and 180 miles back 3 days ago (if that possibly might explain wear and tear on something). Is it the brakes? Or maybe the rotors? Please help!
The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.

You should hear a change in the sound (if brakes) by gently/progessively pushing the pedal while it is making noise. Can also make noise if caliper piston is sticky and keeping the pad in contact with the spinning disc despite releasing the brake pedal (but again should change with pedal pressure). ...can also make high pitched or sometimes rattlely while going around a corner, when the loose pad tips over to scuff against the spinning disc. . without more clues as to what when where how, ,,,must also consider belt squeal, such as from power steering, or A/C clutch, or alternator....slightly loose belt, or too much drag by A/C, power steering (which usually occurs and I am sure you have heard on other cars, when cranking the steering wheel--esp all the way) .......look through the wheels to the rotors with a light to see if even shiny wear; also if can see the thickness of the pad material.. ...(if worn out should hear the dreaded grinding noise as the metal of the pad contacts the metal rotor and grinds and melts/welds--stop you though) ....does it stop evenly? ...hope some of above may have rang true/helpful
