You can access the oil filter easily from underneath next to the front, driver-side wheel at the front of the engine. There is clear access to the filter there.

On the 07 3.7 there is a drip channel... remove that and the oil filter is easier to remove and install also invest in a socket stile filter wrench
SOURCE: I have a 2009 Dodge Nitro 4X4. How do I remove the oil filter
First, I have to say that being retired profesionnally of the mecanic I have not change it by myself. However, it seems that the 4.0 L is relatively easy to replace but the 3.7 L one is located near/between front axle/differential, the harmonic balancer and masked by a bunch of hoses.
Several users reported that the factory one is hard to remove being too much tighted in place.
These things being said, depending on your mecanic experience I'm sure it 'feasible' taking maybe 45 minutes rather then 2 minutes.
My only warning will be to resist to the idea to 'break it ' with a scewdriver with the idea to pry it if it's tight in place. It's really amateur and you could really be in trouble if it doesn't work. A strap wrench is very ofter the most appropriate tool.
Assuming positively you will reach this point, make sure the previous oil filet gasket didn't stay in place and second, put some oil onto the new filter rubber gasket to make the next removal easyer. Tight strongly by hands.
Hope it will help
Sorry for my english

where? i can't get all but my fingertips on the oil filter. got it off now how do you get it back on is there a tool?
If you take off the anti-freeze overflow on the top only 2 screws. You can reach the oil filter easier just below the alternator. It makes it easier to put a oil filter wrench in to loosen it and remove old oil filter. Hand tighten only when putting in new oil filter.
