Buttons on steering wheel do not work

Was Cruise Control working before the New Horn was installed? The power supply to the Horn, (input to ground wire) is connected to the Cruise Control Module (CCM). This CCM is wired to the Relay Switch Box located in the Engine Bay. The Relay Box cover will have a Chart indicating what function each Relay coresponds to. Your local autoparts store (AutoZone) can test the Relay Switch, and you'll know (if any Relay) need to be replaced.

The CCM is also wired to the Steering Wheel, but first passes through the Clock Spring Coil, located just behind the Steering Wheel. The Clock Spring allowes for the Function Buttons on the Steering Wheel to have power while Steering Wheel spins.

The Clock Spring can malfunction or break, its rare, but this will cut power to the Function Buttons on Steering Wheel. If ALL the buttons on Steering Wheel dont work, then the Clock Spring is the Culprit. The Coil may need to be replaced.

The Cruise Control Module itself may have failed and also would cause a few or all Steering Wheel Functions to quit working.

But first check the Relay Switch Box and examine the Harness Cables connecting (Steering Wheel--to--CCM--to--Relay Switch Box--to--Battery Supply).

Also if Cruise Control was working before the new Horn was installed and now not working, then most likely the Problem is a bad wire connection somewhere and/or is a faulty Relay.

The radio doesn't from the buttons on the steering wheel ? The clock spring inside the steering column could have an open in the wiring ! The clock spring allows you to turn the wheel from full left to full right while keeping the horn an radio control buttons connected electrically with wires going down the steering column . There is a device called a "clock spring" inside the steering wheel/column. It contains all the various wires to the buttons on the steering wheel. Sometimes these clock springs that wind and unwind every time the steering wheel is used simply wear out or break causing the problem you cite - no electricity gets to the buttons on the steering whell. Replacing the "clock spring" is mildly expensive. Parts and labor about 400-500 bucks.

It could just be that your horns are bad and need replacing. You got to the horn relay and have somebody push the horn buttons while you hold your fingers on the relay, if you feel it click the your buttons are good and you have bad horns.

LOOK UNDER THE LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR FROM BELOW THE RADIATOR. IF YOU HOT WIRE CAR HORN AND IT WORKS.YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE AIRBAG IN STEERING WITH HORN CONTROL BUTTONS.YOU NEED TO DISABLE AIRBAG IN STEERING WHEEL WHEN REPLACING AIRBAG AND HORN CONTROL BUTTON PAD.JUST TURN OFF RADIO FIRST, THEN DISCONNECT REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.WAIT 20 MINUTES BEFORE WORKING ON AIRBAG AND HORN PAD IN THE STEERING WHEEL.

IF you horn isn't work. Does your radio and crus control buttons on the steering wheel work? My lincoln ls it started with the horn the the controll then the air bag on the steering wheel. There is a modual in the steering colum behind the wheel that controlls all of it. the part is about 145. or the dealership well charge 300 to fix it.

Sounds like you have faulty clock spring, it is located under steering wheel and allows for a rotating electrical contact for the airbag, horn (in many cases) and any other steering wheel mounted electrical push buttons. hope this might help you.

Replace the Clock spring. It is mounted behind steering wheel. It alows electrical connection while the wheel turns.
