My 2003 polo 3 cylinder popped the fuel pipe off the fuel filter near tank when driving, we recovered it to the garage and they replaced fuel filter the car will not start, it has a good spark and fuel getting through, we have bypassed the filter, reset cut off switch but without any joy, anyone know why this is happening?... we would appreciate any help, thanks guys :-(
You need the repair manual for your car the manual will properly help you how to fix the problem and you can get the manual from the given link http://toolsnyou.com/

your fuel sending unit could be bad or you have a leak in the gas tank.

It is on the passenger side right behind the washer fluid fill tube. You can follow the fuel lines (look like 1/4" black tubes, some are clear) from the injector pump to it. It is a caniser a bit bigger than a normal looking oil filter and sits between the washer bottle and the metal that forms the wheel well. It is held in by a screw type clamp about half way down the cylinder. Probably isn't the fuel filter unless there is air in the lines to the injector pump or they didn't bother to fill the fuel filter up with diesel after putting it in. There is not a fuel pump in the tank in these cars so everything is sucked up by the injector pump and it needs to be primed properly.

did they check the other wheel bearings? some time a wheel bearing noise will travel and sound some place different.

I have changed a few cylinder heads under warranty for this type of problem. The exhaust valve guides wear, this causes the exhaust valve to seat badly, giving low compression. if one cylinder compresion reading is more than about 50 psi below the others, then this warrants head removal. It is quite a job, due to the fact that the camshft id chain driven. If you are up for it then once the head is removed, poor liquid into the exhaust ports and see if it leaks out through any of the exhaust valves.

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.
If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.

NOTE
The fuel filter is either on the left side of the firewall or next to the fuel pump near the left side of the fuel tank.
