I have a 2005 Chevy Impala that when I stopped yesterday at a stop sign my drive went out. The car will not move I'm drive or 3rd gear from a stop. But it will go in reverse 1, and 2nd from a stop and go just fine. Now if I shift the car into 3rd or drive after I'm going it seems to work just fine. So if I shift to 3rd when I'm going over 30-40 ish works just fine then shift to drive at about 45 it works just fine. Can someone please help me I can't figure it out and I refuse to pay out the a** to have someone else do it when I'm more than capable myself.

Go to your nearest Auto zone or auto parts and get fault codes but I would say a solenoid if it does not show anything to do with your transmission something mechanical inside of it went out in any given case it's going to be hard to swap solenoids

I'm gonna run a code reader on it later today. I personally believe people make the worl out to be something that it's not I've already done a tranny swap by myself with an 04 I had before.

SOURCE: Was running perfectly, great milage, drove 35

I was having problems with 2001 Lexus also at the end of November beginning of December of this year. I needed inspection, the 3rd oxygen sensor was replaced. Mechanic stated that the noise from my car seemed to be coming from the Transmission. mechanic asked me to drive the car for a few days to be sure the oxygen sensor was fine. On my way back to drop off car for final inspection the car started to buck. Brought it back to mechanic, left it with him, he called and the car stopped moving. I had to have the transmission replaced plus the wall in back where fluid was leaking. Cost $3,200.00 plus towing $150. Plus oxygen sensor part and replacement and inspection another $600.00. Now runs very well, expensive however much less than the expensive of a new car. Happy New Year!!

SOURCE: Volvo 2006 S60 refuses to move in reverse direction

your problem lies in the internal parts of your transmission which are the clutch linings, they are already worn out and starts to slide.

SOURCE: Transmission held 3rd gear longer

it could be the torque converter, but not a valve there is a separate valve for each gear, the chance of all the valves sticking at the same time would be rair but even if the converter has failed it will send trash all threw the transmission causing you transmission to have to be rebuilt or replaced, you have probably had a pump fail in the transmission witch would also cause you to have to rebuild the transmission or replace it, but you might just want to check the fluid level, you may have a leak and it is just so low on fluid it can not work.......GOOD LUCK

2005 Chevy Impala 3.4 V6. Why is it stuck in drive?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Wow, that is cold for Texas. It probably has the original transmission fluid in and it is gummy and thick. The filter is probably blocked because of the cold and the shift solenoids are also sticking because of the temperature. Start the vehicle and let it tick over until it gets to normal operating temperature, then try again. Get to a transmission shop and have the transmission filter cleaned and new transmission fluid.

Stopped at drive way went to put in park nothing went all the way to 1st gear will not come back to park or any other gear shifter moves freely, you think its a broken cable

It could be a broken cable or chipped gears in transmission. I had a car that got stuck in 3rd gear and it was caused by a chipped gear in transmission.

Why are my wipers going constantly and why doesn't any air blow out of my vents on my 2005 Chevy Impala?

I think you have two things going on, your multifunction switch which runs our wipers and your blinkers and high beam, is bad. for your Heat not working , i'm pretty sure that is not tied into the wiper system, does you fan turn on at all in any speeds low high only ?

I was driving to work this morning and was in 3rd gear, went to down shift at a stop sign and its stuck in 3rd gear. 1988 jeep wrangler. It has been grinding the gear for a few weeks now everytime I change...

The 3rd Gear Synchro is worn or damaged, which is why it grinds when you try to upshift or downshift into 3rd gear. When it goes out completely you will have a very hard time shifting into 3rd gear, since the Synchro lines up the gears to make shifts smooth and easy.

2005 chevy silverado 1500, service 4 wheel drive, gears

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.
