Replaced the water pump and the thermostat but it still gets hot. I noticed that when it starts to get hot the fan starts making a clicking noise and seems to jump. Not sure but don't think the fan is working. Could it, probably is, be the fan or something else. people have told me to check the fuses or the temp sensor. don't know what fuse to check and don't know where the temp. sensor is. as you can probably tell, I am a woman with no man around. Thanks. I don't have money to put it in the shop.
The fan(s) (I believe there are at least 2 on that car) on your Olds are electric. If the fuse was bad it would not work. If it is jumping, a fan motor is probably bad. I am not sure, but I think the whole fan mechanism is usually replaced as one unit. Even if individual parts are available, I would still replace the whole thing. To buy it aftermarket is somewhere around $100. It is not a real difficult thing to replace. If you have to take it to a shop, I would hope they could do it for around $250.

A common problem is that the electric fan will not operate. You need to determine if the fan is coming on when the vehicle gets warm.
When you replaced the coolant, were you sure that you got all of the air out of the cooling system? If you have any air in the system, it will cause your system to run hot!

That could be only two things one a bad pistion or a bad rod. I would take the engine apart and find one or both maybe broken or in bad repair fixing. I would not drive it far it will throw the pistion or rod right through the engine costing ya more money or a new car.

Your Problem Can VERY WELL BE with the Temp Sensor, As It Is the First in This Electrucal Circut . it Waits for 210-230 Degree Engine temp and Gives that Sygnal to the ECM then ECM Grounds out the Cooling FAN RELAY To Turn ON the FANS and the Temp Sensor is Usualy THE #1 Culpret Closley in front of the RELAY.
There are 2 Sensors On this Vehicle The One You Replaced and One Located At Trans Side of

Checkk the EGR system for the EGR valve should open when the engine gets to operating temperature. If not the engine will stall out
