SOURCE: change cam position sensor chy

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the electrical harness connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  3. Unfasten the camshaft position sensor mounting bolt. There is a hole in the bracket for tool access to the sensor mounting bolt.
  4. Rotate the sensor away from the engine block.
  5. Pull the camshaft position sensor up out of the chain case cover. Do not pull on the sensor wire.
There is an O-ring on the sensor case. The O-ring may make removal of the sensor difficult. A light tap on top of the sensor prior to removal may reduce the force needed for removal. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
To install:
If the sensor removed is going to be re-installed, clean off the old spacer on the sensor face. A new spacer must be attached to the sensor face before installation. If the sensor is being replaced, be sure that a paper spacer is attached to the sensor face and an O-ring is positioned in the groove of the new sensor.
  1. Apply 1-2 drops of clean engine oil to the O-ring prior to installing the sensor.
  2. Install the sensor into the chain case cover and rotate into position.
  3. Push down on the sensor until contact is made with the camshaft gear. While holding the sensor in this position, install and tighten the mounting bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  4. Attach the electrical harness connector to the camshaft position sensor.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

===
clean throttle plate with Berryman carburator cleaner

SEE sample picture HERE
===

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

===

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

===

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.

Take it for a test drive.

Is there a fuse for the brake lights?

you replaced brake light sensor, not switch. Did you recalibrate it ?

Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration Description and Operation
Calibration Criteria
Brake pedal position sensor calibration must be preformed after the brake pedal position sensor or electronic brake control module (EBCM) have been serviced. The calibration procedure will set the brake pedal position sensor "home" value. This value is used by the EBCM to determine the action of the driver applying the brake system and to provide this information to the vehicle subsystems via the class II communication bus.
Calibration Procedure
• Install a scan tool.
• Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
• Select Chassis.
• Select DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES.
• Select Special Functions.
• Select the BPP Sensor Calibration and follow the directions displayed on the screen.

Stop Lamps
The brake pedal position sensor is a resistive device used to sense the action of the driver's application of the brake pedal. The brake pedal position sensor provides an analog signal that will increase as the brake pedal is pressed.
The brake pedal position sensor receives both a 5-volt reference voltage and a low reference signal from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). When the brake pedal is pressed, a variable signal is applied from the brake pedal position sensor to the EBCM through the brake sensor signal circuit. The fuse block left rear supplies battery positive voltage to the bass relay switch through the BASS fuse. One side of the bass relay coil is permanently grounded at G402. The EBCM supplies voltage to the bass relay coil upon receiving the signal from the brake pedal position sensor. The switch contacts of the bass relay close and battery positive voltage is applied through the bass relay switch to the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL), and to the turn signal/hazard flasher module through the stop lamp switch signal circuit. The ground for the CHMSL is applied from G402. The turn signal/hazard flasher module then supplies voltage to the left and right stop lamps in the tail lamp assemblies that have ground at G401 and G402. For export vehicles the stop lamps receive battery positive voltage directly from the bass relay.

your best bet, have a qualified repair shop check it.

Chrysler Town and country 2008 starts but gas pedal not working.

Check your engine codes. You may have a bad pedal sensor that is not sending the information to the throttle sensor.

2010 3ltr turbo diesel changing throttle positioning sensor/switch under dash.when i take it off to replace it ,does it have to reset for electrical values thanks andrew

if the pedal is fully back on installation then it should not be necessary
basically your foot position on the pedal is the position sensor calibration and by moving the foot that calibration alters so the throttle body sensor reacts to that new calibration

Is there a way to reset electronic throttle control light on 08 Chrysler town and country after it has stalled and wont restart?

No. There is not a scan tool can't either the pedal is not hooked up to engine with a cable. All computer analog signal with electrical wires. This is not one for most mechanics to diagnosos . they seem to have a issue with it. Anyways, take it to dealer. The pedal uses two sensors with oposote signals to determine position. The computer controls electric motor on engine that opens and closes throttle vale. Computer uses two sensors in throttle body to determine its position. If any of these four signals carries even slightly, nothing more than idle. Some will start and idle with no pedal response and other will stay at idle if engine was already started and once keep shuts off then won't restart. So take to dealer.

Oil change reset not done by dealer. Can I do it? bottons are side sliders do not work all of a sudden.

Here's the procedure for reseting the indicator:

1. Turn the ignition to the on position, but don't start the vehicle
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal fully 3 times within 10 seconds
3. Turn the ignition switch to the off position.

If it doesn't reset on your first try perform the procedure again, it's somewhat tricky the first couple times you do it.

HAVE SOMEONE EXTRACT THE CODE FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER. IF THERE IS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THEN THE PCM HAS A CODE STORED ON IT. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, BUT JUST CHECK THE CODE TO BE SURE. SOME OF THESE CAN ALSO HAVE A BAD IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO FIND THE PROBLEM. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED, THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
