How to reinstall water pump inlet tube on 2002 PT cruiser with out messing up the new one

There's no room to move the part back and forth and even. When lubed won't go in far enough to line up the bolt holes

You will want to install both the lower hose and the smaller heater hose to the tube before inserting it back into the water pump housing. Make sure that the new o-ring is lubed up and start by betting the rear part of the o-ring started first. Then you can use a small screw driver to help the edge of the o-ring into the housing while applying pressure on the tube itself. It should eventually just pop in. It is a major pain in the rear, and would help if you could grow another arm out of your head, but it is doable.

SOURCE: Change the thermostat on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Hi, i have put together a step by step guide that will help you with this replacement job. Make sure the vehicle is in a cool state before starting this job.

* Drain some coolant into a clean container until the coolant level is below the thermostat housing.
* Remove the upper radiator hose connection from the thermostat housing.
* Loosen the housing bolts and remove the housing.
* Remove the gasket and scrape it carefully from the surface of the housing and the mounting surface on the engine. If the gasket remains on either of the surfaces, there will probably bea coolant leak after reassembly. Some engines use a rubber O-ring to seal a thermostat housing.
* Compare the size of the thermostat to the old one. They are of different sizes, types, and temperature ratings.
* The temperature rating is stamped on the sensing bulb on the bottom of the thermostat. The temperature bulb faces the block.
* When replacing a thermostat, be sure that the thermostat fits into the groove in the block or outlet housing. If the thermostat is installed upside down, the engine will overheat.
* Install the gasket.
* Reinstall the thermostat housing. Refill the system and run the engine or pressure test to check for leaks.
* When the engine has reached operating temperature make sure the thermostat opens.
* You should be able to see coolant circulating within the radiator.
* Another way of checking thermostat operation is to feel the top of the radiator hose or use a thermometer or multimeter with a temperature probe to confirm that the coolant is warming up.
* If the engine is overheating, but the top hose is still cool to the touch, the thermostat is stuck closed and must be replaced.

NOTE
When a paper gasket is used and the recess is in the thermostat housing, it is a good practice to position the thermostat into the recess and glue the gasket to hold it in place. If it falls out of its groove during installation, the outlet housing can be cracked or a coolant leak will result. Before tightening the water outlet housing, try to rock it back and forth to be sure it is flush. Housings are often cracked during this step.

SOURCE: PT Cruiser Timing chain and water pump problems removing

It's a pain to get out I just did mine belt and water pump it took about 3 times as long as I thought.
Make sure all the bolts are loose, make sure you have removed the tranmission mount as it gives you more room to move the engine. It's suggest you take the exhaust off as well as you can damage it if you jack the engine up too high. Lossen the bolts on the motor mount across from that plate, you will not be able to remove the motor mount but you can spin it allowing you to get that big plate out.

SOURCE: injetor pump removal for 1hz diesel

Hi there Luke. The sprocket gear of the pump is sitting on a taper lock on the pump shaft, you have to use a puller to get it off the shaft. Mount the puller to the threaded holes on the sprocket and when it is tight, give it a sharp crack with a hammer, it will then pop off.
Caution!!!!! Do not hit to hard the pump shaft has a transfer pump attached inside that is quite sensitive.
Before you do drastic things like removing the pump please read the attached manual on setting the timing, special tools are needed to reset the timing.3d2b4ea.jpg

After reaching operating temp, longer than it ever

It sounds like the heater core is plugged, It could possibly be the thermostat or water pump. Have you ever had the cooling system serviced? Maybe flush the system and put in a new thermostat with new anti-freeze.

Describe your 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser timing

Replace the belt at 100k with a new water pump pulley and tensioner. It would not be a bad idea while u r in there to replace the center motor mount. When the mount fails it is a pricey fix not a bad Idea to replace it since you have to remove it to do the belt.
