I am having trouble with my 2012 f150 xlt fuel gauge it reads full when I turn it on and I checked the fuses and the wiring and its not it what is the problem???

What makes you think fuel pump fuse is bad or the reset switch ? ( inertia fuel cut off switch ) Did you test for B+ volt or are you guessing ? Buy yourself DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an test the fuel pump electrical circuit ! Besides fuel there is also an ignition system , is there spark ? Look for the obvious first - is there a fuse on that gauge ? Is the wiring ok between the gauge and the sender? Is the sender working at all - the latter is nothing more than a variable resistor connected to an arm with a float. Find out what the reading should be for the gauge with a full tank. If you measure and it is no where near that then the gauge itself is at fault.

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

I would bet the sending unit is bad but lets check it, a good test i use is that i have a used sending unit i connect to wiring to test the gauge and wiring, if the gauge moves when i move the testing unit then i know the gauge is good and the wiring to, locte the connector at fuel tank, and unplug it, this will be the one the leads to top of the tank and the connector will be on the side be the frame on drivers side, the way you know you have the right connector will be the truck will not run as this connector has the sending unit and pump wires in it, if the gauge goes to full then you know the wiring is good and the gauge is good, you can jump the two wires and gauge should go to full also. the problem is you must get the right wires for sending unit or you may pop fuse, let me see if i can get you a wiring diagram or just do the full test by unplugging connector.

Okay, your sending unit has a yellow and white wire, thats the sending unit wire, the other is a ground and we wont worry about that. so if you want to see if gauge will go to empty or full just unplug connector and gauge will move to full then if you take a wire and jump the yellow wire with white stripe to a good ground the gauge will go to empty, the thing is your gauge is on empty so sending unit may be grounded out, good day

Ensure that all of the wire connections are clean, secure and corrosion-free.

2 Check your fuel gauge fuse if the gauge's indicator stays on empty when your turn on the ignition. If the fuse is good, join the sending unit connector to ground. Replace the sending unit if the gauge indictor moves to the full line.

3 Ground the terminal located on the back of the fuel gauge with a jumper wire if the indicator doesn't move. If it does move, consider replacing the wire between the fuel gauge and the sending unit. A poor ground is frequently responsible for fuel gauge problems.

4 Release the wire that connects to the fuel tank's sending unit. Confirm that there's no worn insulation that would permit wire contact to the body or frame. A fuel gauge reading of full generally indicates a problem with the tank unit, not the wiring.

Turn the ignition on and off several times before inspecting the gas tank because a blown fuse is the usual cause for fuel gauge malfunctioning. If the gauge remains motionless, check your fuse box and determine the fuse's location using your service manual.
Replace the fuse if the link is broken or damaged. Then, inspect the gauge's wire connections for cleanliness and make sure the wires are connected.
Turn the ignition switch to the "off" position. Attach one end of a jumper cable to the fuel-gauge terminal behind the gauge itself. Attach the other end to the ignition terminal.
Replace the sender unit in the gas tank if the gauge reads full and your car does not have a full tank. Replace the fuel gauge if the needle remains inoperative.

When testing a fuel guage you should disconnect the wires to it,guage should read over full,ground the float wire,turn off key then turn back on should read empty.You have to cycle the key for guage to move.If still inop the wire is broken in the harness between the tank and the dash.Voltage on the float wire is low.When tested with a test light it will barely light the light and pulsate.This test indicates the wiring is good.
