Where is the Thermostat loacted at on a 2001 neon, can a home garage mechanic perform easily

the thermostat is generally found on the engine block at the base of the outgoing radiator hose.
Make sure the engine is cool before disassembly, still, remove the radiator cap first!

Donna i had the same problem a month ago i replaced the gaskets for thermostat housing it didnt help. The vocational school pressure tested the truck it was a cracked thermostat housing. Easily fixed if u have some one mechanically inclined it will only cost 80 for the housing. If u take it to a garage

The Thermostat is located under the right side of the Alternator. Nearly impossible to get to the bolts however. And you'll need a star type tool to RE-INSERT the bolts when they do come out with the Thermostat housing. Tricky, slow work, but doable. A garage mechanic would most likely remove the Alternator to get to it easier. But with the serpentine belt, not something a driveway mechanic may want to tackle!

Any job can be done at home provided you or your mechanic friend has the proper tools and understanding to perform the job. If you're a beginning do it yourselfer or just need a refresher I would highly advise getting yourself a service manual for your vehicle at your local auto parts store. It will have decent instructions and pictures in performing most of the jobs you may encounter for your vehicle. Also you may want to take pictures or make notes before anyone removes any components or lines in order to remove your intake. If you need any help with this procedure let me know and good luck

There is a problem with your climate control. It is not allowing the vent to open that allows air to pass through the radiator.

try following the fat hose from the top of the radiator to where it attatches at the top of the engine. this is usually where the thermostat housing is found. good luck. hope this helps.

if you mean a hydraulic tappet then take it to a garage as this is not a recomended home mechanic job,trust

under the intake plenum, which will have to be removed before you can access the thermostat.
I suggest having it done by a garage mechanic.

hi 7785ds, I would take a look at the thermostat first. Your vehicle is equipped with a mechanical thermostat and it can stick open, or the retaining fingers break, allowing full flow all the time. I would recommend r&i the thermostat before condeming something else. Please post your findings if the thermostat checks ok, and I will be glad to assist you further.
