SOURCE: Replacing window regulator

You can buy the plastic clips from the dealer, break the old ones, there is no tool that I remember using, in fact I don't remember having any problem, are you sure the regulator is at fault? why not just replace the motor?

SOURCE: 2003 volkswagen beetle covertible quarter panel removal

I do not recommend this job unless you are a seasoned mechanic, VW dealership charges $1000 for a reason. They almost earn it on this one. but heres how it's done or how I did it any way. the complete job took me 4 hours and I been at this for 30 years. But a lot of this time was figuring out how it came apart. First, drop the top, pull up on seat bottom and remove it, remove center panel, remove 3 allen bolts at bottom on seat back and remove. headrests, they just pull off, raise top just enough to make hinged panels flip up. remove nut at top rear corner of side panel. you can see the back side of the nut and bolt it is on from the panels that flip up. Remove Nylon push lock rivet where seat belt goes through panel on rear, top, corner. Pull out on panel to release it, there is 5 or 6 nylon locks that just pull out of holes in the body. It will sound like your breaking it when the locks pop loose, or mine did. then lift to gain access to remove seat belt bolts and unplug flip panel motors. remove cable end from its clip. Pull seat belts through panel. Set panel a side. remove torx head bolt around oval panel that speaker is mounted on. unplug speaker and regulator and pull wire harness thru hole. remove 2 allen and 5 hex bolts at top where window would come out if it worked. pull up on plate and move rubber window seal to the side to remove plate. remove 2 nuts at bottom of regulator and one about half way up towards front, lift regulator and window up through top to gain access to 3 nuts that hold window to regulator, from the top lift window out first then regulator. Reverse to assemble it.

How to remove rear door window in 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 Sedan

I don't have any model-specific experience on your car but rear drop-glass removal is similar on many models.

Cars of the vintage of yours usually have a small rear quarter light type glass in addition to the drop-glass with a glazing bar separating the two and providing a straight channel for the drop-glass to travel in.

Removing the inner trim panel should expose the fasteners securing the window regulator which, if it isn't a cable type, must be removed after engaging an assistant to hold the glass to prevent it suddenly dropping into the door.
Once the regulator is removed and the glass lowered into the door the glazing bar and the small window is to be removed to provide the clearance necessary to tilt and withdraw the drop-glass through the window slot.

The screw(s) securing the top of the glazing bar is sometimes obvious and sometimes upwards with the heads buried in the felt of the top weatherseal of the window aperture.
Often the lower window aperture trim or trims must also be removed in order to move the glazing bar forward either in assembly with the small window or separated from it if that is the intuitive way.

Windows that are operated by a cable regulator usually need setting half way down so the screws, clips or pegs securing the base of the window to the cables or cables can be released. It is wise not to disturb a 2-cable regulator unless experienced and detailed refitting instructions are available. Fortunately this type aren't much used and mostly the glass can be removed without disturbing that type of regulator.

When rebuilding the door I advise the use of copious amounts of appropriate lubricants on all moving parts, including the door catch internals.
Good luck!
